Biography

Fadi Ghandour is a leading Jordanian-Lebanese businessman, recognized for revolutionizing logistics in the Middle East and South Asia. He co-founded Aramex, a logistics and courier delivery firm, turning it into the first Middle Eastern company listed on NASDAQ in 1997. After five successful years as a publicly traded business, Aramex returned to private ownership before becoming listed again in 2005, this time on the Dubai Financial Market.

Apart from logistics, Ghandour made a significant mark in the digital space by co-founding Maktoob.com, the largest Arabic community website of its time. The platform was later acquired by Yahoo! in August 2009, marking a significant achievement for Arab online entrepreneurship.

In recent years, Ghandour shifted his focus towards supporting emerging businesses. He established Wamda Capital, a renowned venture capital initiative that finances startups across the Middle East and has contributed significantly to fostering entrepreneurial spirit within the region.

Throughout his career, he has actively promoted entrepreneurship and innovative management practices, serving on advisory boards, supporting young professionals, and mentoring aspiring entrepreneurs in his region.

Early Life

Born on January 1, 1959, in Beirut, Lebanon, Ghandour grew up in a financially comfortable household and witnessed early entrepreneurship firsthand—his father was one of the founding figures behind Royal Jordanian Airlines. The family eventually relocated from Beirut to Amman, Jordan, where Fadi spent much of his childhood.

Traveling frequently with his family, particularly to the United States and Europe, he gathered rich experiences. It was during these formative journeys that he eagerly absorbed ideas, stories, and business insights that provided the foundation for his future ambitions.

Inspired by FedEx founder Fred Smith, whose dynamic leadership and innovative vision intrigued him, Ghandour dreamt of establishing a delivery service of his own to modernize logistics in the Middle East.
