Students in Saudi Arabia and Egypt receive a free year-long Google Gemini Pro subscription.
The tool aids learning with podcasts, quizzes, and a Guided Learning mode for revision.
Integration with Google apps provides seamless assistance across Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and more.
Features include voice summaries, video generation, and 2TB of cloud storage.
The offer is valued at 860 Saudi Riyals and open until 3 November 2023.
Starting today, university students across Saudi Arabia and Egypt have been handed a golden ticket: a free, year-long subscription to Google Gemini Pro, the latest generative AI tool from Google. All you need? Proof youāre enrolled, be over 18, and youāre in. For those knee-deep in textbooks, thatās nothing short of a lifesaver.
Now, Iāll be honest ā when I first heard about āAI-poweredā learning aids, I was a bit sceptical. So many of them turn out to be more style than substance. But from what Iāve seen floating around in my own circles at Arageek, this Gemini offer is genuinely making waves. The whole thingās designed to help students get their heads around complex material ā whether thatās by whipping up short podcasts to summarise lectures, generating interactive quizzes, or distilling chunky notes into neat outlines. And for those who sometimes feel a bit lost during revision (weāve all been there, believe me), thereās a Guided Learning mode acting as your own study sidekick.
Whatās really caught my attention, though, is the integration with other Google apps. Imagine having smart assistance right inside your Gmail, Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Meet ā itās proper handy, and saves a right bit of faff bouncing between tabs. If youāve ever wished for a research assistant who never tires, thereās also NotebookLM, a clever tool powered by Gemini aimed at prepping research and generating voice summaries. Throw in a generous 2TB of cloud storage ā I mean, thatās enough for a lifetime of essays and cat memes ā and itās clear Google isnāt scrimping.
On the techy side, Gemini Pro runs on the latest AI model (Gemini Pro 2.5), apparently built for digesting even the most complicated questions you can lob at it. Thereās also a smart video-generating feature dubbed 3Veo, letting users spin up 8-second video clips on the fly. That could be a gamechanger for anyone who learns better by seeing rather than reading.
The scale of the roll-out is spot on, too. Googleās joined forces with local organisations, including Egyptās Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Saudi-based International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE). Itās all above board, ensuring students in both countries can grab this deal with minimal fuss.
Letās talk numbers. The free annual subscription is valued at around 860 Saudi Riyals or roughly 7,000 Egyptian Pounds ā not small change for most students. And the offer is open until 3 November this year, so thereās a decent window to take advantage.
For me, itās always a thrill to see big tech working with local institutions to genuinely empower the next wave of talent in the Middle East. Sometimes things like this get bogged down in paperwork or over-promising, but this time⦠well, I reckon it could actually help tip the scales for a lot of learners who just need that extra boost. If you fancy giving it a try, just follow the steps on the official promo page. And donāt dawdle ā these windows tend to slam shut sooner than you think!
