Impact46 invests over $6,7 million in five MENA gaming studios, boosting the regional gaming scene.

The aim is to support "builders" crafting the next era of content and gaming infrastructure.

MENA studios offer diverse experiences, from culturally rich mobile games to intricate console narratives.

Saudi Arabia's ambition aligns with Vision 2030, driving local innovation in gaming and esports.

These investments highlight potential for shaping the next generation of games with bold funding.

Saudi Arabia’s Impact46 has just made a proper splash in the regional gaming scene, funnelling more than $6.7 million (around SAR 25 million) into five different gaming studios dotted across the MENA region. If you’re familiar with the likes of Fahy, NJD, Game Cooks, Starvania, or Alpaka, you’ll know exactly the kind of talent that's brewing in our ecosystem. These investments represent just a slice of Impact46’s hefty SAR 150 million fund focused purely on gaming—a serious statement of intent if there ever was one.

Basmah Alsinaidi, Impact46’s Managing Partner, put it spot on: gaming is much more than just entertainment these days. “We see gaming as more than a sector; it’s a language of youth, culture, and creation. Through these investments, we’re backing builders who aren’t just launching games, but creating the infrastructure, stories, and platforms that define the next era of content in the region.” Having seen the appetite for innovation among entrepreneurs at events Arageek’s supported, I can honestly say this sort of vision isn’t just wishful thinking—it’s something young founders around here are desperate to turn into a reality.

What’s interesting is the sheer variety among these studios. Some are focused on mobile games steeped in local culture; others are going all-in on rich console and PC experiences, or blurring the lines with new takes on hybrid-casual action. Whether you’re a die-hard gamer or a casual player, it feels like there’s something bubbling just beneath the surface—MENA’s creativity and technical know-how getting ready to break through in force. And believe it or not, pulling off regional hits isn’t a bit of a faff anymore; these teams are getting more sophisticated by the day.

For anyone who’s been keeping tabs on Saudi’s broader ambitions, this all fits very neatly into the Kingdom’s push to become a powerhouse in gaming and esports. It ties back to the National Gaming and Esports Strategy, with Vision 2030 nudging the country away from traditional resources and giving homegrown innovation center stage. Impact46 itself, beyond being an investment vehicle, manages over SAR 2.8 billion across alternative asset classes—and gaming is clearly a big bet for the team.

This latest round isn’t coming out of nowhere, either. Impact46 has already backed the likes of Spoilz—a mobile studio cranking out fresh intellectual property—and Spekter Games, who are blending mobile games into chat “super apps” with a Web3 twist. Personally, I reckon this layered approach (supporting both IP development and new distribution channels) gives the sector a much better shot at real, sustained impact, instead of just chasing the next viral fad.

Still, I'd be lying if I said I was a fan of every shiny new buzzword in gaming, especially when it comes to Web3 and incentive layers. Sometimes these features feel more like window-dressing than real progress. That said, the broader movement—one that puts story, technology, and local identity upfront—definately deserves attention.

Looking ahead, the studio founders are bound to feel chuffed to bits with the backing, and it’ll be worth watching how far they go. If nothing else, these investments confirm what we see so often at Arageek: when you combine bold funding with untapped talent, the region can produce more than just headlines. It might just shape what the next generation of games looks like for all of us.
