Careem has launched on Huawei AppGallery, reaching around 90 million regional Huawei users.
The app now works natively on Huawei phones and watches, avoiding awkward “workarounds”.
The move supports Careem’s long-running push to be an “everything app” across MENA.
Huawei strengthens its local ecosystem, linking AppGallery with maps, payments and wearables.
Careem’s services roll out across 10 markets, widening its reach and shifting competition.
Careem has quietly but confidently landed on Huawei AppGallery, opening its doors to around 90 million Huawei users across the region. For people relying on Huawei smartphones and even smartwatches, this means the Careem app is now just there, ready to handle rides, food orders, groceries, remittances, home services – the whole lot – without any of the usual workarounds. And honestly, anything that avoids a bit of a faff is spot on in my book.
This move fits neatly with Careem’s long-running strategy of being an all-in-one “everything app”, a concept most founders across MENA know is easier said than done. I remember chatting with early-stage teams at regional events who’d struggle to nail even one service smoothly, so seeing a local heavyweight stack so many under one roof does make you pause, well… I mean, it’s not trivial stuff. Huawei, for its part, is clearly doubling down on its regional digital ecosystem, and this partnership reinforces that intent.
Careem’s Chief Business Officer, Bassel Alnahlaoui, has said the company has spent over a decade trying to simplify daily life for millions in the region, adding that the AppGallery launch makes it easier for Huawei users to tap into services many already rely on. On the flip side, William Hu, Managing Director at Huawei Consumer Business Group for the Middle East and Africa, described the partnership as part of Huawei’s focus on user-first experiences, pointing to deeper integration across Huawei Mobile Services devices to make everyday access more intuitive.
There’s some serious scale behind this. Huawei AppGallery is ranked among the top three app marketplaces globally, with more than 580 million monthly active users worldwide. Beyond the headline numbers, it brings practical perks like tighter Petal Maps integration for better location accuracy and more secure payments, all without draining battery life through emulator-based fixes. For users, that detail matters more than flashy slogans, I reckon.
The app will be available across Careem’s 10 markets, including the UAE, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, which is a big deal for GCC travellers who tend to stick with Huawei devices on the move. And believe it or not, the collaboration isn’t stopping at phones. Both companies are planning deeper links with Huawei smartwatches, letting users book and track Careem services straight from their wrist. Huawei’s Atomic Services are also in the mix, aiming to smooth things out for international travellers bouncing between countries.
From an Arageek perspective, it’s another reminder of how regional tech players are maturing, moving beyond survival mode into genuine ecosystem-building. I’m not a fan of calling everything a “super app”, but in this case, the pieces do seem to be falling into place. Whether users will be chuffed to bits or just quietly satisfied remains to be seen, but one thing’s clear: Careem’s reach just got a whole lot wider, and that definately shifts the competitive landscape across MENA.
