Saudi startup ElGoat has secured $266,000 in a seed funding round led by Trigon, closing at a valuation of $2.66 million (around SAR 10 million). It’s an early cheque, yes, but one that signals confidence in a football-focused digital product built squarely for fans who love a bit of friendly competition.
The app was founded at the end of March 2026 by Mohammed Almunajem, former president of Al Shabab Club. His move from club leadership into tech might raise a few eyebrows at first glance, but in Saudi Arabia’s football-mad culture, it actually feels rather spot on. If anyone understands how deeply fans care about match results and goal scorers, it’s someone who has been inside the game’s executive corridors.
ElGoat offers a free-to-play football prediction game covering the Saudi Pro League and the English Premier League. Users pick matches, predict scores and even guess goal scorers, earning points that place them on a leaderboard. Simple in concept, but as any football fan knows, predicting outcomes is anything but simple. That’s part of the fun.
Importantly, the platform does not involve betting or cash prizes. It’s completely free, with no financial wagering attached. Instead, users compete globally or create private leagues with friends. The app supports both Arabic and English, making it accessible to a wide audience across the Kingdom and beyond.
I’ve seen how prediction games can light up WhatsApp groups during derby nights, everyone suddenly becomes a tactical genius, well… I mean, until the final whistle proves otherwise. There’s something powerful in that shared anticipation. And in a region where community often sits at the heart of sport, this kind of digital experience can travel fast if it catches on.
That said, the startup enters a crowded space. Sports gaming apps are not new, and keeping users engaged beyond the first few matchdays can be a bit of a faff. Retention will be key. On the flip side, focusing on regional leagues like the Saudi Pro League, alongside the globally followed EPL, could give ElGoat a differentiated edge. The localisation piece is clever, and frankly, necessary.
From an ecosystem perspective, it’s encouraging to see founders with traditional sports backgrounds stepping into tech. At Arageek, we often talk about how innovation in MENA doesn’t always come from coders in hoodies; sometimes it comes from industry insiders who spot a gap and go for it. I reckon this crossover between sport and startup culture will only grow in the coming years.
For now, $266,000 is seed-stage fuel, enough to refine the product, expand the user base and test what sticks. Whether ElGoat becomes a household name or just another app on the crowded home screen will depend on execution. But one thing is clear: in a region where football conversations never really stop, tapping into that passion through a free, competitive platform could be a smart bet, without any betting involved, of course.
It will be intresting to watch how this plays out over the next season.
