Hala Bag, a Saudi startup, aims to improve luggage handling with its new platform.

Offering door-to-door transport and real-time tracking, it's changing baggage logistics in the Middle East.

The company has already processed over 70,000 bags and serves 20 Saudi cities.

With an asset-light model, it promises swift reunions with lost luggage and cost savings for airlines.

The company seeks to expand internationally, promising streamlined travel experiences for future mega-events.

Travelling can be exhilarating, but let’s be honest—it’s often a bit of a faff when it comes to luggage. Anyone who’s stood at a carousel staring at an empty belt knows the stress. That’s exactly the pain point a Saudi startup called Hala Bag is tackling, with its newly launched platform aimed at smoothing out the messy world of baggage handling across the region.

The company has set up what it describes as the first baggage logistics aggregator in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East, designed to offer door-to-door baggage transport and real-time digital tracking. With partners like Saudia Airlines and SITA on board, it’s positioned as more than just a delivery service—it’s an attempt to overhaul how airlines, airports, and passengers deal with bags.

So far, their numbers sound spot on. Hala Bag says it has already processed more than 70,000 bags, served 30,000 travellers, and expanded operations into 20 Saudi cities. What really caught my eye is their promise to reunite passengers with delayed or misplaced bags in under three hours. If they can keep that up during peak seasons like Hajj or major events, that’s a serious game changer.

The business model behind it is interesting too. Hala Bag runs “asset-light,” meaning it leans on airport and logistics providers instead of sinking cash into heavy infrastructure. For airlines, this could save hundreds of dollars per mishandled bag. For passengers, it could mean fewer missed meetings, weddings or—one I can remember too well—turning up at a conference in Jeddah with nothing but your laptop and a tired smile.

Founded out of Sinayah Venture Studio, the startup is trying to ride a market wave that’s anything but small. Globally, the baggage handling sector is valued around $20 billion. And with Saudi airports alone managing roughly 200 million bags for 120 million passengers each year, the local opportunities are massive. With Expo 2030 and the World Cup 2034 on the horizon, demand for slicker travel experiences is only going one way.

Founder Ammar Al Omair explained that Hala Bag isn’t simply about shifting luggage but creating a tech-driven infrastructure that “enhances human experiences and keeps pace with global transformations in travel.” Now, I’ll admit I’m a tad sceptical about the buzzwords—lots of startups talk about “enhancing experiences”—but in this case, the execution might actually stack up.

Looking ahead, the company is raising a fresh investment round to expand beyond domestic coverage and offer international baggage transfer too. It’s even joined the Saudi Tourism Development Fund’s accelerator programme. Not bad progress for a company that only recently launched officially.

From my side, I reckon if Hala Bag sticks to its promises and scales smartly, it could become one of those unglamorous but essential travel services we all come to rely on. And believe it or not, that might make Saudi Arabia a global hub not only for mega-events but also for how your suitcase gets from A to B—without all the usual hassle. For travellers across the MENA region and beyond, that would be something to be chuffed about… even if checking in is still a bit of a drag sometimes.

One thing’s for sure: luggage is no longer just luggage. It’s data, logistics, and in the case of Hala Bag, potentially big business. And well… in a world where losing your bags can derail a trip, that’s definately worth keeping an eye on.
