InfiniLink's iOTC chips aim to improve speed without increasing power consumption in data centres.
The technology promises faster AI-driven centres that use less energy, benefiting both users and the environment.
Funding will advance their mixed-signal analogue and photonics tech, boosting efficiency.
Egyptian semiconductor startup InfiniLink has announced that it has successfully closed a $10 million seed funding round to further develop its innovative optical connectivity chips designed specifically for data centres specialising in artificial intelligence.
The funding round saw contributions from the global tech giant MediaTek, alongside regional outfits like Sukna Ventures and Egypt Ventures. Angel investment group M Empire Angels also pitched in, highlighting the growing regional confidence in InfiniLink's groundbreaking technology.
Founded back in 2022, InfiniLink is tackling one of the trickier challenges facing today's high-performance data centres: namely, how to upgrade speed and performance without ramping up power consumption. The Egyptian firm seems to have cracked a promising method through its advanced silicon photonics transceiver chips, creatively nicknamed iOTC, or "Integrated Optical Transmitter and receiver Chips".
What’s all that mean for us normal folks? Well, as anyone who's tried streaming their favourite Netflix show during peak hours would tell you, smooth and rapid data exchange makes life that little bit easier. More seriously, the tech InfiniLink is cooking up could help make AI-driven data centres faster and kinder to the environment by using less energy, which frankly feels like a win-win in my book.
The new round of cash aims to help the startup build on its considerable expertise in mixed-signal analogue and photonics technology, further boosting efficiency and speed. With industry heavywheights like MediaTek backing InfiniLink, prospects certainly look bright for this emerging Egyptian player.
