PayTabs Egypt and Valu have launched the Valu Merchant App for seamless, smartphone-based payments.

This app allows merchants to accept payments without traditional POS machines, enhancing digital economy access.

It's aimed at financial inclusion and easing digital transactions for small and medium businesses.

The partnership reduces costs and accelerates digital payment adoption in Egypt's cash-reliant retail sector.

Real-time reporting and convenience improve trust, offering a transformative shift in payment methods.

PayTabs Egypt and Valu have joined forces to roll out a fresh solution that could give Egypt’s retail sector a real boost — the new Valu Merchant App. It’s a smart, contactless payment tool built to make in-store digital transactions faster and more accessible. The best part? Merchants can now accept payments right from their smartphones, with no need for chunky POS machines cluttering up the counter.

In essence, the partnership between the two firms aims to help small and medium businesses leap into Egypt’s digital economy without breaking the bank. Haytham Morsy, Vice President of Commercial and Business Development at PayTabs Egypt, noted that this collaboration is “a meaningful step toward financial inclusion,” emphasising how it brings mobile commerce tools to merchants who might never have used such technology before. I reckon that’s spot on — giving store owners a quick, secure way to accept payments can really change their day-to-day operations.

For many shop owners, especially those in smaller towns or markets, handling digital payments has always been a bit of a faff. So the idea of turning something as simple as a phone into a full payment terminal hits the right note. Customers can scan a PayTabs-powered QR code in the app, make their payment in seconds, and walk away with an instant confirmation — job done.

Omar Magdy, Head of E-commerce and Payments at Valu, explained that the integration is more than just a tool; it’s a shift in how merchants and customers interact. He mentioned that the partnership would cut costs and speed up the adoption of digital payments across the country. And believe it or not, that’s a pretty big deal given how much of Egypt’s retail still relies on cash.

From electronics and fashion to healthcare, Valu’s merchant network can now tap into this digital-first setup with real-time reporting, faster onboarding, and no paper receipts in sight. On the flip side, it’s not only about convenience — it’s about trust. Merchants gain visibility into every transaction, while customers enjoy a seamless checkout experience.

At Arageek, we’ve seen many startups try to push digital transformation, but what stands out here is how practical this solution seems for everyday sellers. I was once at a local bazaar where a vendor struggled with an outdated card machine that kept losing signal — talk about frustration. If this app can truly replace those clunky devices, then it’s definately a step forward for Egypt’s retail scene.
