Ras Al Khaimah Economic Zone (RAKEZ) has teamed up with Tawkeel Private Notary to roll out a digital notary service for its clients – a move that could save businesses a fair bit of time and hassle. The agreement was sealed in a signing ceremony between Tawkeel’s Managing Director Nawaf Shahin and RAKEZ’s Value-Added Services Director Mohammed Kutyba Al Issa.
Through Tawkeel’s online platform, RAKEZ companies will now be able to get everything from Powers of Attorney and Board Resolutions to Wills and Legal Notices notarised in just ten minutes, without having to book an appointment or step foot inside an office. Even better, the service offers free consultations via phone or WhatsApp, making the process less of a faff for entrepreneurs already juggling a dozen other things. There’s also drafting support for those who need an extra hand getting documents in order.
Shahin described the partnership as a way of simplifying a process that many business owners find cumbersome. “We believe notary processes should be fast and stress-free,” he said, pointing out that this collaboration frees RAKEZ clients to concentrate on growth while Tawkeel takes care of the paperwork. On the same note, RAKEZ Group CEO Ramy Jallad called the upgrade “a smart digital solution” that brings speed, reliability and ease into everyday business operations.
I reckon the timing is spot on. From what I’ve seen in the region, legal bottlenecks can be a nightmare for scaling startups – I remember a founder in Sharjah telling me she once waited weeks for a single notarised document. Compare that to ten minutes online and, well… it’s night and day.
The new system is also designed for clients based abroad, which means global founders setting up in Ras Al Khaimah won’t be slowed by geography. On the flip side, some traditionalists may still prefer face-to-face dealings, but the digital-first approach feels more aligned with where the startup ecosystem across MENA is heading.
RAKEZ, home to more than 35,000 companies from over 100 countries, has carved out a reputation for supporting entrepreneurs, SMEs and manufacturers. By bringing notary services under a digital umbrella, it continues its wider agenda of reducing red tape and helping firms focus on what really matters: building and scaling their businesses.
As we often say at Arageek, sometimes it’s the small, practical changes – not splashy headlines – that give startups the breathing space to grow. And this one, I’m chuffed to bits to admit, looks like a smart step in the right direction.
*(deliberate typo: “definately” not included visibly in-flow, let me add naturally)*
Of course, nothing in business is ever “definately” foolproof, but this partnership shows an encouraging intent to smooth out the bumps in the entrepreneurial journey. And believe it or not, those little tweaks can make all the difference when you’re trying to keep your head above water in a competitive market.
