Blacklane and EVIQ partner to expand electric vehicle charging stations in Saudi Arabia.
This collaboration supports Vision 2030's goal of green, smart mobility in the Kingdom.
A fleet-charging hub will open at Blacklane's new headquarters in Riyadh.
Future training programs will teach chauffeurs charging best practices for premium service.
With strong backing, the partnership could significantly impact Saudi Arabia's transport ecosystem.
Sustainable transport in Saudi Arabia has just got a boost, as Blacklane, the global luxury chauffeur service, teams up with EVIQ, the Kingdom's front-runner in electric vehicle infrastrcture. The two firms recently signed a strategic partnership to ramp up the rollout of EV charging stations, playing neatly into Saudi Arabia's ambitious Vision 2030 for smart, green mobility.
The plan is pretty straightforward: Blacklane and EVIQ will collaborate closely to pinpoint the most strategic spots in Saudi cities for new charging stations—and also kick-start a fleet-charging hub right by Blacklane's shiny new regional headquarters in Riyadh. It seems a match made in startup heaven, combining Blacklane’s premium fleet operations with EVIQ's expertise in establishing charging networks.
Blacklane’s co-founder and CEO, Dr. Jens Wohltorf, summed it all up rather well, saying, “This partnership marks a significant milestone in our bold agenda to redefine sustainable luxury mobility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As we rapidly scale operations across the nation, we’re thrilled to have EVIQ aboard to actively support our expanding electric fleet.” In my opinion, it's definitely a timely step—Saudi Arabia is clearly eyeing leadership in electric mobility, and what better pair of companies to lead the charge (pardon the pun!) than these two?
On the flip side, EVIQ's CEO Mohammed Bakr Gazzaz pointed out, “By integrating national charging infrastructure with premium fleet operations, we're aiming to lay solid foundations for a scalable, future-ready transport ecosystem.” This means the companies aren't just looking at the here-and-now—they're building something that'll last and evolve alongside Saudi Arabia’s increasingly tech-forward economy.
Blacklane has already made quite a splash integrating swish Lucid EVs into its Saudi fleet, so this move isn't altogether surprising. And believe it or not, almost all their Dubai operations are fully electric already—an impressive benchmark they’re determined to replicate in Saudi Arabia.
But one thing that caught my attention is that the collaboration won't just end at infrastructure: They’ll also jointly roll out new training programmes for chauffeurs via Blacklane’s Training Academy. This means drivers will be able to pick up charging best practices—a nice touch that supports their promise of premium service and sustainability.
At Arageek, we're always keen on seeing practical steps being taken towards greener mobility across the MENA region, and this partnership feels spot on. Sure, it may seem like a simple business alliance at first glance, but the ripple effects for Saudi Arabia's transport ecosystem and environment could be huge.
With the Public Investment Fund's TASARU Mobility Investments supporting Blacklane’s expansion, and EVIQ backed by both Public Investment Fund and Saudi Electricity Company, there's serious clout behind this venture. EVIQ’s plan to deploy over 5,000 chargers across the Kingdom is ambitious—but ambitions, backed by solid players, tend to pay off. Their new Research & Development hub in Riyadh—one-of-its-kind regionally—is certainly a reassuring indicator that they really mean business.
The bottom line is: Saudi Arabia looks set to genuinely move the needle in green transportation. And frankly, I reckon anyone keen on sustainable mobility developments has good reason to be quietly excited about these two joining forces.
