Egyptian edtech platform Career180 has announced a substantial new round of funding—a six-figure investment—from US-based investor Den VC, as it embarks on significant regional expansion into Saudi Arabia, Oman, and even across the Mediterranean into Malta. Known widely across the Middle East and Africa for their work in career path development and educational technology, the team at Career180 has ambitious goals. They're aiming to train and support over a million individuals and place 50,000 more into new employment opportunities—focusing especially on those out of work at the moment.
Co-founder Shorouk Alaa El-Deen was clear on the mission behind Career180; for her, it's much more than simply running a profitable startup. "Building Career180 was never just a business, but a mission," she explained.
Den VC's managing partner, Waleed Khalil, expressed similar optimism and pride. He highlighted the commitment Career180 has shown in resolving "the gap between education and employment" across MENA, and recently in Southern Europe. "We are confident in the team's vision and ability to implement it," Khalil emphasised, adding that this investment was a reflection of Den VC’s dedication to backing scalable solutions that have meaningful economic and social impact.
As part of expanding further into the Saudi market, Career180 is joining forces with VMS—a venture studio offering tailored help to startups and global entrepreneurs that plan to enter or scale in the Middle East and North Africa. VMS CEO Moataz Abu Anq stressed that startups need more than just funding to thrive—they need solid local advice, carefully nurtured networks, and specialised support to smoothly navigate new markets. "With our soft-landing services, we walk side-by-side with startups to accelerate their entry into the Saudi market and overcome early operating and commercial hurdles," he added.
It's certainly not Career180's first accolade. Over recent years, the company has been recognised by industry analysts HolonIQ multiple times—specifically in 2022, 2023 and 2024—as one of the top edtech companies to watch. They've also collaborated with heavyweight names like the International Labour Organisation (ILO), GIZ, Coca-Cola Egypt, and Plan International.
Meanwhile, Shorouk, Career180's co-founder, has gained personal recognition as well, earning her place among the IFC and Dutch Embassy's list of Africa's top 50 women entrepreneurs—helping highlight the organisation's commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment.
Supported now by fresh capital and strategic collaborations, Career180 seems well poised for its next stage of growth across the Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions, where they'll be innovating further, localising course content to allow wider access, and forging purposeful partnerships that hopefully yield tangible results.
I must say, platforms like Career180 do strike me as more vital than ever—I think we've all known someone who’s found themselves a bit lost when leaving uni or after losing a job; having the support of such training and career-focussed resources right there is brilliant. It’s encouraging to see funding going toward something with this sort of positive social impact, rather than just another trendy app or quick-fix tech idea.
All power to them—let's watch this sapce and see how it unfolds.
