Cercli, the UAE-based platform helping companies hire, manage, and pay their teams worldwide, has just landed a solid $12 million Series A led by Germany’s Picus Capital. It’s actually Picus’ first investment in the MENA region, which says quite a bit about how fast the regional tech scene is shifting gears. The round also included Knollwood Investment Advisory and familiar backers like Y Combinator, Afore Capital, and COTU Ventures – all doubling down on Cercli’s momentum. A clutch of angel investors joined in too, including folks from names such as OpenFX, Jet HR, Truelayer, and AI71.
What’s striking is that Picus, with more than $1 billion under management and a portfolio stacked with HR giants like Personio and Deel, saw enough promise here to take its playbook global. I reckon that alone hints at the calibre of Cercli’s ambition. The startup wants to become a one‑stop platform for handling people, data, and AI‑driven “agents” – a clever move given how quickly artificial intelligence is creeping into everyday business operations.
In just a year, Cercli claims to have grown revenues tenfold and processed over $100 million in salaries across fifty countries. Their client list isn’t some rag‑tag bunch either; Vision Bank, Backlite Media, Lean Technologies, and Ziina are among those already onboard. CEO Akeed Azmi called the past year’s momentum “remarkable,” adding that businesses are hunting for a unified system instead of juggling half a dozen disconnected tools – and who could blame them? Those legacy ERP giants like SAP and Oracle can be a bit of a faff to adapt.
The numbers back that up: Cercli reports steady 22% month‑on‑month growth while chasing a regional HR software market estimated at $5.8 billion. With Saudi’s Vision 2030 fuelling mammoth projects worth hundreds of billions, demand for better workforce solutions is only heating up. From what I’ve seen chatting with founders around the Gulf, more companies want software that behaves more like a smartphone app than a dusty accounting database.
Robin Godenrath from Picus Capital said the Cercli team’s product velocity was “spot on,” pointing out how quickly they’re shipping updates for an increasingly tech‑savvy workforce. And believe it or not, Cercli can migrate a company’s entire HR system in under three days, compared to the nine‑month marathons typical of older vendors. That bit made me smile – I’ve watched firms limp through those deployments; it’s no fun at all.
The fresh capital is set to power Cercli’s next phase: building out new AI‑native tools and expanding its all‑in‑one suite. Co‑founder and CTPO David Reche said they’re rethinking workforce management from the ground up to embed AI rather than tack it on. Since last year, the company’s managed to attract talent from tech heavyweights like Google, Meta, Goldman Sachs, and Rippling. Not bad going for a startup still scaling its wings.
At Arageek, we’ve often marvelled at how MENA startups like this are taking global trends and giving them a regional twist. There’s still a long road ahead for Cercli, but if they can keep their current pace without tripping over the usual scaling hurdles – recruiting, regulation, and the odd culture clash – they might just carve their place among the big hitters of HR tech. Well… we’ll see soon enough. For now, the team has every reason to be chuffed to bits.
