EDGE and UAE Cybersecurity Council Forge Alliance for Resilient Digital Future

There was quite a buzz at GITEX GLOBAL 2025 this October when EDGE and the UAE Cybersecurity Council (CSC) joined forces to tackle one of the most pressing issues in the digital world—cyber resilience. The two powerhouses put pen to paper on a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at tightening cooperation in cybersecurity and information protection. The agreement was formally signed by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, who heads the UAE Cybersecurity Council, and Hamad Al Marar, the Managing Director and CEO of EDGE.

Now, I’ve been following regional cybersecurity efforts for a while, and I must say, this move feels spot on. In a world where data breaches and ransomware attacks pop up faster than you can say “update your password,” this kind of collaboration is more than a formality—it’s a genuine necessity.

The MoU isn’t just about headlines. It lays out a framework for solid teamwork across research and development, information sharing, and joint incident response. It also focuses on building local capacity—training people, not just deploying tech. That said, these agreements can sometimes get bogged down in bureaucracy, and I reckon the real test will be how swiftly they turn plans into practice.

Dr. Al Kuwaiti described the partnership as a way to “reinforce our collective ability to protect critical infrastructure,” stressing the shared ambition to make the UAE a world leader in cybersecurity. Meanwhile, Al Marar echoed that sentiment, calling cybersecurity “a cornerstone of national security” and highlighting EDGE’s role in combining advanced technologies with homegrown expertise to strengthen a self-reliant digital ecosystem.

And it’s not just talk. EDGE has been fast developing into one of the most prominent tech groups in the Emirates since it was launched back in 2019. The group operates across five main clusters—from missiles and space technologies to homeland security—and has become known for pushing the envelope with innovations like autonomous systems and smart materials.

On the flip side, partnerships like this one are sometimes seen as a bit of a faff to coordinate across government and industry lines. But, well… I mean, when the stakes are this high—protecting national infrastructure and digital assets—you can’t really afford to drag your feet.

The partnership between EDGE and the CSC, then, isn’t just about shoring up the UAE’s defences—it’s also about fostering a culture of innovation and trust in the wider digital economy. If executed well, it could very well set a new benchmark for how countries in the region approach joint cybersecurity strategy. Personally, I’m chuffed to bits to see that focus on both cutting-edge tech and human talent; it’s a reminder that in cybersecurity, people matter just as much as the systems they protect.
