EVC and Paysky are launching Zumrah, a digital payments platform for Haram visitors.
The initiative supports Vision 2030, improving the Hajj and Umrah experience with integrated services.
Zumrah aims to unify digital payments, bookings, and logistics for a seamless visitor experience.
It's leveraging EVC's digital expertise and Paysky's financial tech to enhance visitor management.
The success depends on handling peak periods effectively with robust infrastructure.
EVC has teamed up with Paysky in a move that could quietly reshape how millions of people manage their payments during visits to the Holy Sites. The two companies have agreed to develop and operate Zumrah, a new integrated digital payments platform – effectively a Super App – designed specifically for Haram visitors. I’ve seen plenty of digital transformation projects in the region, but this one feels spot on given the scale of crowd movement during Hajj and Umrah, where even small inefficiencies can become, well… a bit of a faff.
The partnership aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader push under Vision 2030 to modernise the Hajj and Umrah sector. The idea is to make the entire journey smoother, safer, and more seamless for visitors from both inside and outside the Kingdom. Zumrah is set to bundle a wide range of services: digital payments, e-wallet features, bookings, mobility and logistics support, bank integrations, financial transfers, and even QR-powered tools to tie all of this together. It’s essentially an attempt to unify what is often a fragmented visitor experience.
From what’s been shared publicly, the platform will draw on EVC’s strength in digital transformation and crowd management, while leaning on Paysky’s financial tech infrastructure and its impressive network of regional partnerships. Put together, the two firms hope to build a comprehensive digital ecosystem tailored to the needs of Haram visitors. And believe it or not, projects like this often remind me of conversations I hear whenever I’m speaking with founders around the MENA region through Arageek – everyone’s trying to solve real-life, high-pressure problems with tech that actually works.
Dr. Basem Jamil Zafar, CEO of EVC, described the collaboration as an important step towards delivering more secure and efficient digital services for visitors. Meanwhile, Dr. Waleed Sadek, Founder and CEO of Paysky, highlighted that Zumrah aims to blend digital finance with smart services in a way that enhances financial inclusion and elevates the overall experience, especially during such significant journeys.
I reckon the real test will be how well the platform handles peak periods, when millions are moving at once. But if the foundations are as robust as promised, this could be one of those initiatives that quietly becomes indispensable – the kind you only notice when it’s not there. And I’m definately curious to see how it plays out.
