Khazna Data Centres secured a $2,62 billion credit facility to expand data centre operations.

They're planning significant growth across the MENA region, anticipating data capacity to double soon.

New facilities in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Ajman will enhance local infrastructure, aided by AI technology.

Internationally, Khazna aims for 1 gigawatt capacity with projects in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

A partnership with NVIDIA aims to advance AI-ready data centres in the Middle East and Africa.

Khazna Data Centres, a major name on the UAE tech scene, has just clinched a hefty $2.62 billion credit facility, setting the stage for a serious ramp-up in its data centre ambitions — not just at home but across the wider region. The facility, set up with help from Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and First Abu Dhabi Bank, runs for a full decade, which should give Khazna plenty of breathing room to execute its truly bold gameplan.

Now, for anyone who’s spent time in the startup or tech world here, you’ll know competition is fierce and standing out is a bit of a faff. Khazna, though, seems to have it nailed — they already command a whopping 73% market share in the UAE. Not content to rest on their laurels, they’re eyeing fresh territory across the MENA region, backed by the growing belief (and Mordor Intelligence stats, if you’re the number-crunching type) that the region’s total data centre capacity is set to double in the coming five years.

What really caught my eye is Khazna’s pipeline — we’re not talking a handful of half-finished warehouses. There are new facilities in Abu Dhabi sprouting up, another in Dubai, and an Ajman site guided by artificial intelligence tech. On the flip side, international expansion is clearly a top priority, with plans to reach the 1 gigawatt mark with projects spanning France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and even Kenya. That’s not small potatoes.

And, believe it or not, Khazna has also teamed up with tech heavyweight NVIDIA to deliver large-scale, AI-ready data centres for the Middle East and Africa. Proper forward-thinking, if you ask me. I reckon this partnership could be a game-changer for regional AI infrastructure, which up until now has been a bit patchy.

One thing I’ve noticed, speaking frankly from my own bumpy journey supporting entrepreneurs, is how deals like this can light a fire under the startup community — both with fresh funding and, maybe more importantly, by showing what’s possible if you think big. It’s easy to get bogged down in day-to-day hurdles, but seeing a regional player stretch its wings is reason enough for optimism, even if the odd setback is inevitable (we’ve all been there, haven’t we?).

All in all, Khazna’s move is spot on for a region hungry for digital transformation — and while there’s never any guarantee, the ambition here is hard to ignore. One to watch, for sure, as MENA keeps bridging the gap to global tech standards, even if the journey is slow-going at times.
