It seems Abu Dhabi’s gearing up for another chapter in its tech story. During GITEX GLOBAL 2025 — that massive digital transformation event at Dubai World Trade Centre that always draws a crowd — ORYXLABS, an entity under the EDGE Group, put pen to paper with Reach Digital, the UAE company known for its AI and digital transformation work. Their memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to take on some big topics: threat intelligence and OT/IoT security, areas that are getting more vital by the day.
The MoU was signed by Rogério Lemos, CEO of ORYXLABS, and Malik Melhem, Group CEO of Reach Group. The plan? To form a joint committee that’ll sniff out new commercial opportunities, focusing on cybersecurity, innovation, and market expansion. I reckon that’s quite spot on, given how digital threats are becoming as common as sand in the Gulf.
If you’ve been wandering around GITEX this week, you might have seen ORYXLABS’ stand in Hall 24, showcasing what’s under the hood of EDGE’s broader Space & Cyber Technologies cluster. There’s definitely a buzz around that section — and for good reason.
A bit of background helps to frame all this. EDGE, launched back in late 2019, has been one of the UAE’s main flagbearers for advanced tech, bringing together more than 35 entities across areas like defence, cybersecurity, homeland security, and innovation. They’ve got their sights set on making the UAE a real hub for next-gen industries, pushing boundaries with autonomous systems, robotics, and cyber-physical capabilities.
When I think about it, partnerships like this feel a bit like tuning an engine — everything has to sync perfectly for it to hum along. And it’s not just about shiny new technology; it’s about cultivating local talent too, something that EDGE keeps emphasising.
At Arageek, we’ve seen time and again that such collaborations often ripple beyond the signing table. They set things in motion for startups, tech talent, and newer firms to plug into a bigger ecosystem. That said, execution will be key — because forging an MoU is one thing, but turning it into tangible outcomes… well, that’s where the real work begins.
Still, it’s good to see the MENA region not just keeping pace but occasionally getting ahead in areas like cyber resilience. And honestly, I’m quite chuffed to bits to watch how these homegrown partnerships unfold next year. It’s a reminder that the UAE’s digital ambitions aren’t just talk; they’re very much in motion — and that’s something worth paying attention to, even if it takes a bit of a faff to keep up with all the acronyms.
