When I first heard about Lottery.com's latest move, I was a tad surprised. A company best known for the betting and numbers scene is now stepping firmly into sports and wellness in the UAE. They've agreed to buy a 90% stake in Nook Holdings for a cool $2.5 million in cash, with plans to close the deal by June 30th, 2025.
For those not in the know, Nook Holdings was founded back in 2018 by Ravi Busari. They've built a decent name offering coworking spaces and company licensing services specifically aimed at startups in sports and general wellness. And believe it or not, they're actually making decent money—$354,000 in net profit this past fiscal year, with projections hinting at a neat 38% growth, set to hit around $490,000 for 2025.
Lottery.com's broader goal here makes a lot of sense, if you ask me. Once the takeover goes through, Nook will be rebranded under Sports.com—as part of Lottery.com's ambitious global rollout of branded incubators. It's a clever strategy: building platforms where early-stage sports, health, and entertainment startups can thrive. To me, diversification like this feels spot on—spreading risk and tapping into new, vibrant markets that young entrepreneurs in the MENA absolutely love.
And speaking of vibrant markets, Sports.com plans to open a second centre near Dubai's iconic DIFC and the Burj Khalifa by Q4 of 2025. I must admit, I reckon choosing such prime real estate signals a serious intention (and a considerable investment). Additional incubators are pencilled in for Riyadh, Jeddah, and Abu Dhabi. Clearly, Lottery.com aren't faffing about here—the UAE and the wider region seems to be firmly in their sights.
At Arageek, we've always been keen on covering the movers and shakers that energise MENA startups. Seeing more big names move into incubation has been fascinating. Beyond the numbers and corporate jargon—well... I mean, it's exciting watching a gaming company pivoting strategically to support practical grassroots entrepreneurship in sports and wellness. I'm quietly optemistic that this move might just pay off nicely in the future.
