MNT Tech Holding has applied to list 1.

6 billion shares on Egypt’s main market.

The filing is an early step towards a possible IPO, not approval yet.

The exchange will publish the application for five business days from 8 September.

MNT-Halan may seek a $900 million to $1 billion valuation in public markets.

The move highlights a shift towards local listings and supports regional expansion plans.

MNT Tech Holding, a subsidiary of Egypt-founded fintech MNT-Halan, has filed an application to list 1.6 billion shares on the Egyptian Exchange’s main market, a move that puts the company one step nearer to a possible IPO.

The filing covers shares with a par value of EGP 0.10 each, giving the issued capital a total value of EGP 160 million, or roughly $3.12 million. It is a fairly technical step on paper, but in startup terms it matters. For readers at Arageek who watch the region’s funding scene closely, this is the sort of development that can shift the mood from private-market momentum to public-market ambition almost overnight.

That said, the listing request is not the same thing as approval. The Egyptian Exchange said the application would remain published for five business days from 8 September, in line with standard market procedures, while the required documents are still being completed. So, no trading bell yet — not by a long shot.

The move comes as MNT-Halan weighs a potential stock market debut. Reports earlier in June suggested the company could be targeting a valuation of between $900 million and $1 billion. That range is interesting, because MNT-Halan had already crossed the $1 billion mark in an earlier funding round, which gave it unicorn status. On the flip side, public markets can be a different kettle of fish, and startup valuations do not always travel neatly from private rounds to exchange screens.

There is also a wider backdrop here. Approvals in Egypt’s growing non-banking financial sector have also covered companies such as Thndr and the finance arm of CIB, showing how the market is opening up beyond traditional banking players. I reckon that is spot on for where the ecosystem is heading. For years, many founders in the region treated local exchanges as a bit of a faff compared with private capital. Now, well… I mean, that thinking seems to be shifting.

MNT-Halan is expected to use its capital largely in Egypt, while also backing its regional expansion plans across the UAE, Türkiye, Pakistan and the wider GCC. For anyone who has spent time around MENA startups, that mix feels familar: build depth at home, then scale carefully into nearby markets where the financial inclusion story still has plenty of room to run.

For now, the filing is only an early step. But it does show that one of Egypt’s best-known fintech names is edging closer to public capital markets, and that alone will get founders and investors across the region watching closely.
