Morocco has officially kicked off its new 'DigiSchool 2025' programme, aiming to boost the integration of modern digital technologies into the national education system. The project, launched on 25 March, follows a successful pilot conducted in 2024 and is being implemented in collaboration with tech giant Huawei Morocco.
According to Morocco's Minister of National Education, Mohamed Saad Berrada, DigiSchool 2025 strives to enhance the digital literacy of both students and teachers, while promoting innovation and openness to emerging technologies. Minister Berrada emphasised the critical importance of the programme for ensuring Morocco builds an education system that's resilient, inclusive, and responsive to the demands of a digital future.
Under the initiative, around 1,800 Moroccan teachers will receive comprehensive training in cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and augmented reality. Additionally, an impressive 36,000 pupils will join DigiSchool clubs, spread across 248 schools in all 12 of Morocco’s regions, providing a unique opportunty for young people to develop creative skills and familiarise themselves with tools integral to tomorrow’s job market.
This undertaking aligns neatly with Morocco’s broader education-modernisation roadmap spanning 2022–2026. By pursuing strategic partnerships that bridge the gap between public and private sectors, Morocco hopes to swiftly modernise classrooms, preparing both educators and learners for the transforming global landscape.
What's more, DigiSchool 2025 dovetails with Morocco’s wider ambitions under its "Morocco Digital 2030" national strategy, which seeks to establish the country as a major technology powerhouse in Africa. Core goals of this long-term vision include training up 100,000 young Moroccans each year for digital careers and creating around 240,000 tech-related positions by the year 2030. As digital skills grow increasingly vital, the DigiSchool project is a significant leap forward in ensuring young Moroccans are job-ready and able to thrive in the ever-evolving digital workspace.
I have to say, as someone who's struggled a bit with assembling a flat-pack wardrobe—never mind robotics—I can't help but admire how quickly things are moving along in digital teaching across Morocco. Let's hope this energetic push helps youngsters confidently navigate the brave new digital world that's rapidly shaping around us.
