Khazna aims to expand data capacity in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.
This marks a significant move towards making cutting-edge AI capabilities standard globally.
The AI sector in the Middle East and Africa got a big boost this week with news that Khazna Data Centers is teaming up with technology giant NVIDIA. The two companies have announced they will jointly build advanced AI data centres across the MEA region, fuelling ambitious plans to position the UAE as a major global hub for AI infrastructure development.
Khazna, already well known globally for its extensive hyperscale digital centres, has secured NVIDIA's certification for its upcoming facilities. This means their future installations will be specifically tailored to support NVIDIA's advanced Blackwell architecture, guaranteeing that Khazna's data halls are geared to take on powerful, GPU-driven workloads right from the get-go.
Now, data centres aren't always the most fascinating dinner-table topic—after all, chatting about tech servers doesn't usually rank up there with discussing who won the latest episode of 'Strictly' or debating whether chips taste better with mushy peas or gravy (it's gravy, obviously). But there's something rather exciting happening here. Khazna is designing individual data halls that can scale up to 50MW each, eventually forming giant clusters delivering an impressive 250MW of power devoted solely to artificial intelligence workloads. Quite hefty numbers there, and indicative of just how ambitious the region has become around tech and innovation.
Much of this development will centre around an expansive 5GW UAE-US AI campus—recently announced during the high-profile visit of former US President Donald Trump to Abu Dhabi. Clearly, enhancing deep-tech collaborations between American technology powerhouses and countries in the Middle East is becoming increasingly strategic for both parties involved.
As Khazna's CEO Hassan Alnaqbi put it, “The world is entering a new era of AI-driven innovation, and the UAE is uniquely positioned to lead. Our work with NVIDIA represents a bold step forward in delivering high-performance, future-ready infrastructure at unprecedented scale. It reinforces our support for the UAE’s ambitions to become a global AI leader.”
Beyond the UAE, Khazna is actively broadening its horizons, increasing data centre capacity throughout the broader Middle East, Europe and Africa. Countries like France, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Kenya and Egypt are all part of the company's vision to reach a total capacity of 1GW, counting among some of the biggest and most innovative repositories of advanced computing resources worldwide.
With tech infrastucture like this, it's easy to imagine a future in which cutting-edge AI capabilities become the norm, from Cairo to Paris, and perhaps even beyond. All in all, an exciting time for tech enthusiasts and investors alike—though perhaps best discussed over a proper brew instead of trying to shout across the noisy tables at Arageek Café!
