Omantel and inspireU back numerous startups, aligning with Vision 2040 and Vision 2030.
The collaboration promises cross-border connectivity and mentorship access for emerging entrepreneurs.
Omantel Innovation Labs and inspireU, the startup accelerator under Saudi telecoms giant stc group, have joined hands in what looks set to be a meaningful step towards connecting the Gulf’s startup ecosystems. The agreement, signed during GITEX GLOBAL in Dubai, focuses on helping early-stage founders stretch beyond their domestic markets, access new funding routes, and accelerate their regional growth.
From what I’ve seen over the years covering MENA entrepreneurship for Arageek, these cross-border collaborations aren’t just corporate PR fluff—they’re increasingly vital. Startups often hit a wall when it comes to scaling regionally. A deal like this, between Oman’s leading telco and one of Saudi Arabia’s largest digital players, could make that “next step” less of a faff for founders ready to expand.
According to Omantel Innovation Labs’ Senior Manager, Her Highness Ghada Al Said, the partnership marks a milestone in their mission to empower local innovators and strengthen the entrepreneurial landscape across the GCC. She noted that the alliance with inspireU would unlock opportunities for startups to “scale beyond borders” by drawing on each side’s network and expertise.
inspireU’s Director, Abdulrahman Al Zuhair, echoed that sentiment, saying the collaboration would “connect ecosystems” and open fresh investment horizons for founders throughout the region. I reckon he’s spot on—many Saudi startups have long eyed Oman as a launchpad for the wider Gulf, and this deal could lower those barriers.
Omantel Innovation Labs, founded in 2021, is already known for backing more than 60 technology startups through its accelerator and local innovation programmes. It also co-manages a venture fund with Future Fund Oman, investing about 3 million OMR so far in promising businesses. That hands-on support has played a role in Oman’s push towards Vision 2040—an ambitious plan to diversify its economy away from oil.
On the flip side, inspireU isn’t new to the field. Since 2015, the accelerator has worked with over 150 startups across ICT and digital innovation, collectively pulling in more than one billion Saudi riyals in investment. Some of those projects now serve tens of millions of users worldwide—which, frankly, is no small feat.
Behind both accelerators are heavyweight corporates with big tech ambitions. Omantel continues investing in cloud, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity to push Oman’s digital transformation, while stc group is cementing itself as a regional digital enabler aligned with Saudi Vision 2030.
When I spoke to a few founders last year about similar regional alliances, the recurring theme was simple: entrepreneurs don’t just want capital; they want cross-border connectivity and easier access to mentorship. This partnership, if executed well, could tick both boxes.
And believe it or not, sometimes the smallest gestures—like shared office space or a quick link between accelerator mentors—can spark collaborations that shift entire market dynamics. It may not grab headlines now, but in a year or two, we might look back and say this Omantel–stc tie-up was the quiet push that made a difference.
Still, I’m not a fan of assuming every corporate partnership will transform the entrepreneurial scene overnight. These things take time and real commitment. But for founders in Muscat and Riyadh dreaming of regional reach, this deal is, well… a step in the right direction. And if Arageek’s own mission to energise MENA startups has taught me anything, it’s that steady cooperation—not flashy announcements—is what truly powers innovation.
(And yes, I’m definately curious to see what startups first benefit from this alliance.)
