OpenCX, a UAE-based startup working at the intersection of AI and enterprise customer communication, has raised USD 7 million in fresh funding. The round was led by Y Combinator and X by Unifonic, with Shorooq and Sadu Capital also coming in. Not bad at all, and honestly, a bit of a confidence boost for founders building deep, less flashy tech in the region.
Founded by Mohammad Gharbat and Mohammad Tabaza, OpenCX is tackling a problem many large organisations quietly struggle with. Handling customer conversations at scale — across calls, emails, chats and messaging apps — can quickly turn into a real headache, especially in regulated industries where one wrong step can be costly. I’ve seen this up close in past startup roles, where “just add more agents” felt like the only answer… and it rarely worked.
The company says its AI engine now automates more than 70% of customer interactions, while still giving enterprises the control they need in complex environments. That balance between efficiency and trust is not easy to pull off, and I reckon that’s why investors are paying attention. This isn’t just another bot for basic FAQs; it’s built for high-volume, high-stakes workflows, which is a different beast altogether.
With the new funding, OpenCX plans to double down on growth as demand from large enterprises continues to pick up. A key part of that plan is Saudi Arabia. The startup is preparing to open a regional office in the Kingdom, hire local teams and work closely with big organisations there. And believe it or not, many enterprise buyers in the region are now pushing for AI-first systems rather than treating AI as an add-on — a shift that feels spot on.
Saudi Arabia, in particular, is seen as a major growth market for the company, with AI adoption accelerating quickly and expected to keep pace into 2026. That said, expanding into enterprise-heavy markets is never a walk in the park. It’s a long sales cycle, lots of compliance hoops, and more than a little patience required.
Commenting on the company’s direction, CEO and co-founder Mohammad Gharbat said the focus has always been on helping organisations grow without communication becoming a bottleneck. OpenCX, he noted, is designed for environments where workflows are complex and trust really matters. From an Arageek perspective, this feels like one of those quietly important stories — not the loudest funding round, but definately one that reflects how the region’s startup ecosystem is maturing, well… you know?
