RØDE Launches the new DS3: Versatile Studio Arm for Today’s Creators

RØDE has unveiled the DS3, a new desktop studio arm aimed at creators who need a more solid and flexible setup on the desk. The launch came from Sydney on 25 August, with the company presenting the DS3 as the next step after its DS2 model, this time with higher load capacity, better adjustability and stronger stability for increasingly busy creator workstations.

The key upgrade is the payload. DS3 can handle up to 1.5kg, which means it is built for heavier gear such as broadcast-style XLR microphones including RØDE’s own PodMic, as well as larger diaphragm mics, cameras, lights and other accessories. It also comes with an integrated ball head designed for smooth and near-silent movement, so users can adjust their gear mid-recording without too much fuss. A central locking mechanism then fixes the equipment in place in one move, which, to be fair, sounds spot on for anyone trying to avoid interruptions during a stream or podcast.

One detail that stands out is the base. Instead of relying on the usual desk clamp, the DS3 uses a weighted base, allowing it to sit anywhere on a flat surface. That may sound small, but anyone who has dealt with awkward desk edges or crowded setups knows this can save a bit of a faff. I’ve seen enough startup teams and solo creators across the MENA scene trying to build decent recording corners on limited budgets and cramped desks, and small design choices like this can make a real difference, well… I mean, sometimes more than flashy specs do.

RØDE says the redesigned base is more stable than before while still keeping a compact footprint, so there is more room left on the desk for other equipment. The company has also put attention on vibration control and finish. The black version includes a soft-touch silicone isolation pad on top of and underneath the base, while the white version uses natural cork on both sides. It is a neat touch, and I reckon it gives the product a little more personality without overdoing it.

There is also some practical thinking in the smaller details. Cable clips are included to keep XLR and USB cables tidy and out of sight, helping reduce desk clutter. For compatibility, the DS3 ships with 3/8-inch, 1/4-inch and 5/8-inch thread adaptors, so it can work with a broad mix of microphones, cameras, lights and related gear straight out of the box. For creators, that matters, because hunting for the right adaptor after opening a new product is definately not anyone’s idea of fun.

The DS3 is available now in black for $109 and is already shipping worldwide, while the white finish is expected to arrive soon.
