Schneider Electric and LG Electronics have teamed up to bring a new level of smart living to Saudi Arabia, launching an immersive LG Smart Home Showroom in Riyadh. The two brands aim to show that convenience and sustainability don’t have to be worlds apart — and honestly, I reckon they might be onto something.
The launch event drew senior figures from both sides, including LG’s Country President, Mr Sunny Kim, and Schneider Electric’s Business Development and Strategy VP, Eng. Alexey Ryabenkiy. They unveiled a space that blends digital energy management, automation, and the latest consumer tech into what they call the home of the future.
Walking through the showroom, visitors can tinker with Schneider Electric’s KNX-based Internet of Things systems — think lighting, curtains, and appliances all connected and controlled through LG’s ThinQ app. Using tablets, wall panels, or simple touch interfaces, you can see in real time how a few taps can transform a room. It’s a bit of a faff setting these systems up at first, admittedly, but once you see them in action, the appeal becomes clear.
Mohamed Shaheen, Schneider Electric’s regional CEO, described the collaboration as part of a larger push for smarter and greener homes that echo Saudi Arabia’s sustainability vision. He made a solid point — about 90% of our time is spent indoors, and buildings eat up roughly a third of the world’s energy. With that in mind, energy-efficient homes aren’t just a luxury; they’re becoming essential.
And it’s not just talk. Market analysts at IMARC Group value Saudi’s smart home market at roughly $1.2 billion in 2024, with forecasts suggesting it could jump to $3.2 billion by 2033 — an impressive leap. Factors like AI integration, growing awareness, and government-backed smart city projects are driving that curve upwards. It’s no small thing.
For LG, the Riyadh showroom isn’t just about showing off flashy gadgets. Mr Kim highlighted that it serves as a hub where visitors can really experience how technology enhances comfort and sustainability at home. Partnering with Schneider Electric, he said, brings together energy management and consumer innovation under one roof — quite literally.
From Schneider’s side, Mohamed Nagy, the company’s Vice President for the region, shared a similar view. He noted that smart homes play a vital role in achieving energy efficiency at the community level, aligning with the Kingdom’s broader vision for sustainable urban living. The partnership, he added, is an example of how collaboration can elevate everyday life while supporting long-term environmental goals.
Every corner of the showroom, by the way, runs on Schneider Electric tech — smart electrical panels, integrated wiring devices, and automation systems all working quietly behind the scenes. It’s the type of setup that makes you think: this isn’t just about gadgets, it’s about designing homes that think ahead.
At Arageek, we’ve seen plenty of talk about smart cities and digital transformation across the MENA region, but projects like this one feel more tangible — you can actually walk in and see how it all fits together. And believe it or not, what sounded futuristic just a few years ago is now within reach for many households. Quite spot on if you ask me.
The partnership might not revolutionise every home overnight, but it does show how tech giants are putting sustainability on the front burner. And that, in itself, is something to be a little bit chuffed about — even if, well… it’ll definately take time before every home catches up.
