BankDhofar launches Mastercard World Elite in Oman for affluent, globally minded customers.

5% back' overseas and 1% domestically, favouring frequent travellers.

Travel perks include unlimited lounge access, a guest, and airport fast-track passes.

Insurance covers medical and 'travel inconvenience', though customers should check the fine print.

Eligibility requires OMR 3,000 income; fees are OMR 60, with spend-based waivers.

BankDhofar has rolled out a new premium credit card in Oman, unveiling the Mastercard World Elite Credit Card aimed squarely at customers who live and spend globally. It’s positioned at the very top of Mastercard’s portfolio and is clearly designed for affluent, internationally minded individuals who expect their banking to keep up with their lifestyle ambitions.

At its core, the card offers straightforward but attractive rewards. Cardholders earn 1.5% value back on international spending and 1% on domestic purchases. It’s not revolutionary, but it’s spot on for frequent travellers who rack up overseas transactions and want something tangible back, without jumping through hoops. I reckon consistency here matters more than flashy, short-term bonuses.

Travel is where this card really tries to pull ahead. Customers get unlimited airport lounge access worldwide, including entry for one guest, which can be a lifesaver during long layovers. There’s also airport fast-track access, allowing cardholders to skip the usual queues, with three complimentary passes each year at select airports. Anyone who’s dashed through a terminal hoping not to miss a flight knows how much of a faff normal queues can be… so this perk will resonate.

The card comes with travel medical insurance and cover for travel inconvenience, offering a safety net against delays, cancellations, or medical emergencies abroad. Combined with Mastercard’s global acceptance and security features, the promise is a smoother payment experience wherever you land. That said, I’m not a fan of vague insurance explanations, and customers would be wise to read the fine print carefully.

Beyond airports and airplanes, the World Elite card leans heavily into lifestyle. It includes preferential merchant offers, access to curated luxury experiences, and invites to exclusive events. With higher credit limits and premium service standards, BankDhofar is pitching this as more than just plastic in your wallet. Well… I mean, banks love that phrase, but the intent is clear.

Eligibility is tightly defined. The card is open to Omani nationals and residents aged 18 and above, with supplementary cards available from age 13. Applicants must earn at least OMR 3,000 per month. The annual fee stands at OMR 60 for the primary card and OMR 30 for supplementary ones, with fee waivers available from the second year if annual spending targets are met.

From an Arageek perspective, having watched founders and executives across the MENA region juggle travel, meetings, and expansion plans, tools like this can quietly make life easier. It won’t build your startup for you, but for those already operating at a certain level, it might just smooth the journey. And believe it or not, that peace of mind is sometimes what people value most, definately when moving fast across borders.
