Banknbox Egypt has been making all the right moves lately. The company, already known for its Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, has just rolled out an expansion of its digital offeringsāwith a particular focus on its SoftPOS solutions. For those not knee-deep in fintech jargon, SoftPOS basically lets merchants accept card payments directly on their mobilesāno need for the old, bulky POS machines. Quite the gamechanger, really.
This move is part of Banknboxās broader plan to deliver a fully integrated ecosystem for banks and payment providers. Their platform already covers the full journeyāfrom merchant management and transaction routing to settlement and reconciliationāhelping financial institutions deliver slicker, more flexible services to corporate and retail customers. I remember speaking once with a small merchant who said the paper-based systems used to be āa bit of a faff.ā Well⦠digital SoftPOS options like these might just be the fix.
Over the past two years, the company has been quietly building up its tech stack and beefing up its security credentials. They even bagged the global mPOC certificationāno small feat, considering only a handful of firms worldwide have managed it. Among their newer tools, something called TTOD (Tap To Own Device) caught my eye. It lets users tap their own cards on their phones instead of a merchantās device. Clever thinking, and frankly a sign that contactless innovation is only getting started in Egypt.
Eng. Basem Mahmoud, the companyās CEO, described the latest phase as part of a push to back Egyptās banking sector in its journey toward full digital transformation. He reckons that by expanding SoftPOS services, banks can make daily transactions easier while boosting financial inclusion. And on the flip side, thereās also a national angleāpositioning Egypt as a regional hub for payment technology exports across Arab and African markets. Spot on, I say.
At the moment, Banknbox is already running SoftPOS projects with more than six Egyptian firms in partnership with top local banks. Talks are also underway with several more to kick off fresh collaborations. The company seems dead set on using its Egypt HQ as a launchpad for exporting digital banking services across the Middle East and Africa. It already serves clients in over nine countriesāLibya, Qatar, and Iraq among themāwith new markets soon to follow.
Now, this might sound like business as usual, but it actually ties into a bigger national effort. Banknboxās plans dovetail neatly with Egyptās Vision 2030, which aims to transform the country into a regional digital powerhouse. Backed by strong government support and a growing infrastructure in telecoms and data, the local fintech scene has never looked more promising. Iām not usually one to gush, but itās definately an exciting time for anyone keeping an eye on how tech is reshaping financial inclusion across the region.
At Arageek, weāve often seen how these seemingly small innovations ripple across MENAās startup ecosystem. I still remember a founder telling me how accepting digital payments changed his entire business. So when Banknbox says it wants to make customersā lives easier and open new export markets, itās not just talkāitās part of a wider story about how homegrown fintech players are turning local ambition into global momentum.
