Biography

Khaldoon Khalifa Ahmed Al Mubarak is an influential Emirati businessman and executive, widely recognized for his leading roles in various governmental bodies and major corporations in Abu Dhabi. Currently, he holds positions on Abu Dhabi’s Executive Council and serves as the CEO and managing director of Mubadala Development, a prominent investment firm established to diversify Abu Dhabi’s economy. He’s also renowned internationally as Chairman of Manchester City FC.

His father, Khalifa Ahmed Abdulaziz Al Mubarak, was serving as the UAE ambassador to France when he was tragically assassinated in 1984. This devastating incident profoundly shaped Khaldoon’s early life. Under the mentorship and adoption of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the young Khaldoon pursued higher education abroad and rapidly emerged as a powerful figure both in business and public life.

Khaldoon was adopted by Sheikh Zayed after his father’s tragic assassination in 1984.

 

Early Life

Born in 1975 in Abu Dhabi, Khaldoon Khalifa Ahmed Al Mubarak faced tragedy at an early age. Only 8 years old when his father, the UAE ambassador to France, was assassinated, Khaldoon was personally adopted by none other than Sheikh Zayed himself. He moved to the United States for his studies, earning a degree in Economics and Finance from Tufts University in Boston. Khaldoon’s early career saw him entering executive management roles at a remarkable speed, becoming Sales Director at the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) by the remarkably young age of 21.

Khaldoon Mubarak comes from an accomplished family. One of his three sisters, Dr. Razan Khalifa Al Mubarak, is currently serving as managing director for the Emirates Wildlife Society, an environmental body.
