Born on 14 November 1982 in Dubai, Hamdan is the second son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma. His childhood was shaped by a close-knit family environment and a love for learning.

From an early age, he immersed himself in Dubai’s rich cultural heritage while attending Rashid School for Boys. Seeking a broader global perspective, he pursued advanced studies in the United Kingdom at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst—renowned for training monarchs and royals. Later, he honed his business and economic skills at the London School of Economics and the Dubai School of Government. Hamdan credits much of his personal and professional growth to his father’s guidance, which emphasised discipline, humility, and service.

Family remains central to Hamdan’s life. He is notably close to his parents and siblings—Rashid, Manal, Maktoum, and Majid—and has spoken about how these relationships shape his sense of duty and responsibility. He also holds a deep affection for his wife, Sheikha bint Saeed bin Thani Al Maktoum.

This includes writing poetry under his pen name Fazza, meaning “one who rushes to help,” a reflection of his sense of duty.
