Early Life
Born on December 1, 1958, in Dubai, Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum is the younger brother of Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who took him under his wing as a mentor. Growing up closely under his brother’s influence, Ahmed absorbed valuable lessons in politics, administration, and the responsibilities of leadership. Early on, his interests extended beyond the classroom, enjoying falconry and horse riding alongside his studies at Al Ahmadiya School from 1963, where he learned Arabic, English, mathematics, geography, and history.
He later attended Al Shaab School before graduating from Dubai Secondary School in 1973. Pursuing higher education, he traveled to the United States and studied Business Administration at the University of Denver, setting the foundation for his future leadership roles.
The Personal Life
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed married secretly in 2007, tying the knot with Nevine El Gamal, an Egyptian. The relationship became strained shortly after she revealed her pregnancy. After his son Saeed was born in the United States in April 2008, Sheikh Ahmed initially refused to recognize paternity, but following legal actions, his paternity was confirmed. Eventually, he was required by court to provide financial support to his former spouse. He later married his cousin, Mona bint Obaid Al Maktoum.
