Careem partners with Flyby to expand ads from mobile to delivery bikes in Dubai.

The partnership bridges digital and physical ads, enhancing visibility across the city.

Flyby’s Smart Delivery Boxes display geo-targeted ads, adding mobility to traditional advertising.

This collaboration aims for a balanced urban advertising network without overwhelming the public.

Careem’s ecosystem spans rides, food, and payments in 10 countries, while Flyby mixes tech and mobility.

Careem has teamed up with Flyby in a move that blends digital ads with the city streets, creating what feels like a natural next step for an app that already sits at the centre of so many daily routines across the region. I remember chatting with a young founder at an Arageek event last year who joked that Careem had become her “Swiss Army knife app” — rides, food, payments, the whole lot. So hearing that the company is now extending advertising from mobile screens to delivery bikes roaming around Dubai didn’t exactly come as a shock.

The idea is simple enough, but smart. Careem already lets brands reach millions of people inside its app, whether they’re ordering groceries, booking a ride or settling a bill. Now, with Flyby’s technology bolted onto the back of its delivery fleet, those same ads can pop up on digital screens right at street level. It’s the kind of touchpoint that follows people through their day without becoming a bit of a faff.

Karim Abdelhamid, Senior Ads Sales Manager at Careem, said the Flyby tie-up boosts the company’s ability to help brands stay visible “whether they’re scrolling through the app, taking a walk, or passing a Careem delivery bike on the street.” On the flip side, Saher Khattab from Flyby described it as bridging “the digital and physical worlds,” especially in parts of Dubai where traditional billboards simply don’t exist.

What I reckon makes this partnership rather spot on is the mobility aspect. Flyby’s Smart Delivery Boxes turn riders into moving billboards, weaving through neighbourhoods that rarely see conventional outdoor ads. These screens aren’t just flashing generic content either; they run geo‑targeted campaigns backed by real-time analytics. And believe it or not, the same hardware tracks driving behaviour such as speeding and harsh braking — a detail that shows how adtech and road safety sometimes overlap in surprising ways.

Careem and Flyby say their collaboration will keep evolving, pushing towards a more connected urban advertising network that works for brands without overwhelming the public. I’m not a fan of over-the-top digital clutter, but this sort of mobile, measured approach feels more thoughtful… well, most of the time anyway.

Careem’s wider ecosystem continues to grow, now spanning everything from ride-hailing to payments across 10 countries. Flyby, meanwhile, operates out of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Munich, blending hardware, data and mobility into a model that advertisers seem quite chuffed to bits about. It’s one of those partnerships that shows how quickly the region’s tech landscape is shifting — sometimes so fast I can’t even keep up with it, definately.
