Charikaty is building around the full business journey, with regional expansion ahead.
Charikaty, a Morocco-based legaltech startup, has closed a pre-seed round at a €3 million valuation, drawing backing from investors in the UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia as it pushes beyond company formation into accounting, compliance and wider business services.
The startup did not reveal how much money it raised. Still, the names in the round stand out a bit. Investors include Dubai-based Red Tape Ventures, Faris Al-Obaid, who is Vice President and General Manager of Mastercard Kuwait, and Al-Ittihad footballer Faris Abdi, along with other undisclosed backers. For early-stage founders in MENA, that kind of regional mix is often a good sign, not just for capital but for doors that may open later. I reckon that matters nearly as much as the cheque itself.
At first, Charikaty built its name around one thing: making company setup less of a faff. Through its platform, entrepreneurs can register structures such as SARL, SARL AU, SAS and foreign subsidiaries fully online, using legalised electronic signatures and fixed upfront pricing. The company says filings can be completed in as little as three days, which, in a market where admin can sometimes drag on, feels pretty spot on.
Amr Mouaqit, Charikaty’s co-founder and chief executive, said the startup’s work in company creation gave it “a very clear place to start”, but also exposed what founders tend to need afterwards. “The ambition now is larger than the incorporation itself,” Mouaqit said. “We want to build around the lifecycle of the company.”
That wider push is already visible. Charikaty has expanded its offering to include statutory modifications, domiciliation, accounting packages, trademark filing and company dissolution. It has also introduced a dedicated diaspora channel that lets Moroccans in more than 100 countries set up businesses without travelling back home, appointing a proxy or dealing with consular appointments. And believe it or not, that detail may be one of the most practical parts of the whole model. Anyone in the startup space around Arageek readers knows how often founders abroad want to launch in their home market but get stuck in paperwork before they even begin.
In September, the company also launched Webaty, a website development venture serving more than 16 sectors, from e-commerce and construction to consulting, restaurants and short-term rentals. According to the company, an initial website can be delivered within 72 hours once the client provides content. It’s a brisk promise, yes, but it fits the same idea: remove friction, move fast, get businesses live.
A second venture, this time focused on accounting and compliance, is also expected to launch later in September. It will start with products tailored to Morocco’s accounting and tax framework, including the country’s upcoming electronic invoicing requirements, before moving into Egypt and GCC markets. On the flip side, scaling regulated services across several jurisdictions is never simple, and I’m not a fan of startups pretending otherwise. But Charikaty seems to know where the next demand is coming from.
One line in the original company material mentioned customer intelligence and international growth, which feels slightly out of step with the rest of the legaltech story, well… I mean, the main direction is still clear enough. Charikaty is trying to become more than a digital incorporation tool. It is building around the full journey of running a business, from registration to compliance and online presence, with Morocco as the starting point and regional expansion definately on the horizon.
