Austria-based startup Chatlyn recently snagged around USD 9.3 million (or about EUR 8 million) in a Series A funding round led by Smedvig Ventures—and they've certainly hit the ground running. With additional backing from some notable figures like AnyDesk's founder Andreas Burike and angel investor Mathias Hiebeler, the company also clinched an innovation grant from FFG. That's Austria's main funding body for industry-linked research, for those who haven't heard of it.
To give a bit of context, Chatlyn—which launched this year thanks to founders Nicolas Vorsteher (CEO), Michael Urbanek (CTO) and Matthias Haubner (CPO)—aims to become something of an "AI brain" specifically tailored for hotel operations. The clever thing Chatlyn has done here is bundle more than 10 different messaging channels—including email, WhatsApp, SMS, webchat and social media—into a single automated, AI-driven platform. Add in live translation in over 35 languages and seamless integration with hotel property management systems, and you've got yourself a pretty robust toolbox. If Chatlyn delivers, it could be spot on in solving one of the hospitality industry's perennial headaches.
So what's next with this fresh cash injection? Well… I mean the startup plans to ramp things up notably in the MENA region, specifically setting its sights on the UAE.
