Entlaq partners again with El Gouna to host the 2026 SDR Summit.
The “Data × Innovation” theme aims to ground policy and investment in evidence.
Over 500 participants, including international investors, will attend sector-focused sessions.
The SDR 2026 report spans ten sectors, from FinTech to CleanTech.
Organisers hope clearer data drives policy reform and fresh capital flows.
Entlaq is doubling down on El Gouna. For the second year running, Egypt’s entrepreneurship-focused think tank has signed a strategic partnership with El Gouna Red Sea by Orascom Development to host the fourth edition of the Egyptian Entrepreneurship Sector Diagnostics Report (SDR) Summit, set to run from 10 to 12 September 2026.
Held under the theme “Data × Innovation: Re-imagining Egypt’s Entrepreneurship Landscape”, the summit will once again unfold in El Gouna, the Red Sea destination that has steadily positioned itself as more than a holiday spot. Over the years, it has become a meeting point for founders, investors and policymakers, and, frankly, it’s not a bad place to have serious conversations about the future of startups.
At its core, the SDR Summit is designed as a specialised gathering for Egypt’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. Government officials, venture capitalists, startup founders, innovation leaders and development institutions are all expected to take part. The idea is simple but powerful: bring everyone into one room, ground the discussion in data, and try to move the dial on policy, investment and growth.
Omar Rezk, Managing Director of Entlaq, said the partnership with El Gouna reflects a shared belief in the value of building dialogue in the right environment. He pointed out that El Gouna offers a model that blends sustainability, innovation and quality of experience, creating what he described as an inspiring space for decision-makers and entrepreneurs to connect. He also highlighted that the SDR report aims to become a national, data-driven reference, supporting policies and strengthening Egypt’s competitiveness as a regional innovation hub.
From El Gouna’s side, Haytham Samir, Chief Commercial Officer, noted that hosting the summit for the second consecutive year builds on the impact and international exposure achieved in the previous edition. He emphasised that El Gouna’s role goes beyond tourism and hospitality, positioning it as an integrated destination that supports business growth and cross-sector collaboration. According to him, the partnership aligns with a broader commitment to innovation and sustainable economic development in Egypt and the wider region.
I’ve always felt that when ecosystem players step outside Cairo for these conversations, something shifts. There’s less rush, more honesty. At Arageek, we often talk about how environment shapes ambition — and in a place like El Gouna, discussions about fintech regulation or climate innovation somehow feel both grounded and forward-looking. Maybe it’s the sea air… or maybe it’s simply good strategy.
This year’s SDR 2026 report will cover ten of Egypt’s fifteen key economic sectors: FinTech, AI, HealthTech, AgriFood, CleanTech, EdTech, Tourism, the Creative Economy, Logistics & Mobility, and Policy & Ecosystem Development. That breadth matters. It shows that Egypt’s startup story isn’t a one-trick pony; it stretches from digital finance to food systems and from classrooms to climate solutions.
More than 500 participants from over 12 countries are expected to attend, including between 15 and 20 international investors. The programme will feature upwards of 29 speakers, alongside sector-focused sessions, networking activities and dedicated investment events connecting regional and international venture capital funds with some of Egypt’s most promising startups.
The summit officially opens on 10 September with the launch of the SDR 2026 report, followed by a high-level dialogue bringing together government representatives, policymakers, investment funds and financial institutions, as well as multinational corporates. An official reception will close the first day, before two further days of panels, discussions and closed-door investment meetings.
That said, events like this can sometimes become a bit of a faff if they drift into buzzwords without substance. I reckon the real test for SDR 2026 will be how clearly the data translates into actionable insight, especially in sectors like CleanTech and Logistics, where Egypt has tangible regional potential. On the flip side, the fact that the report spans ten sectors and draws in international investors suggests the ambition is spot on.
For Egypt’s founders navigating funding gaps and regulatory hurdles, having a consistent, annually updated reference point could be genuinely valuable. And if the conversations in El Gouna lead to clearer policies or fresh capital flows, then this partnership will prove more than symbolic. It could be a small but meaningful push towards a more resilient, data-informed and definately more connected entrepreneurship ecosystem in Egypt and across the region.
