The 2025 Future Innovation Tech Expo, or FIX 2025 as itās come to be known, opened its doors in Daegu with a proper bang this October. Under the banner āThe Future Has Already Begun, All on AI,ā the event brought together a fascinating mix of public officials, academics, and industry giants who are all elbows-deep in the business of shaping tomorrowās tech. Acting Mayor Jeong-gi Kim kicked things off alongside big names from Koreaās transport and industry ministries. But it wasnāt just local heavyweights turning upāglobal figures like Universal Robotsā JeanāPierre Hathout and FiscalNoteās Tim Hwang also joined, giving the whole thing an international flavour.
Now, Iāve been to my fair share of expos, and they can sometimes feel like a bit of a faffāall powerpoint slides and polite applause. Not this one. FIX 2025 took over both halls of EXCO, showcasing mind-boggling AI-driven creations and handsāon demos. Hyundai and HL Robotics gave visitors a glimpse into what smarter, cleaner cities might look like, with sleek hydrogen vehicles and parking robots on show. The real crowdāpuller, though, had to be the humanoid boxing match. Watching two robots swing punches at each other felt straight out of science fiction⦠and yet, there it was, centre stage in Korea.
The energy of the place was contagious. I reckon what makes FIX intriguing is how it marries serious policy and playful invention. You had XPeng AeroHTās Wang Tan spelling out how 3D mobility could redefine air travel and, just a few metres away, university professors chatting about the next frontier in humanoid design. Somewhere in the middle stood LGās Advanced Robotics Lab, quietly proving that even household tech can be transformative.
On the flip side, it wasnāt all AI and automation. There was room for nostalgia too, with a display of vintage beauties like the Ford Model T and the Porsche 356 once driven by James Dean. You could almost smell the history in the air, a reminder of how far the car industry has comeāand how far it still plans to go. For those itching to test the future themselves, electric car trials from BYD and Hyundai were on offer.
For visitors commuting from other cities, shuttle buses ran like clockwork between Dongdaegu Station and EXCO, which is spot on, reallyāitās one less headache when youāre trying to soak up so much new tech. FIX 2025 runs from the 22nd to the 25th of October, closing a tad earlier on Saturday (a detail easily missed if, like me, you donāt double-check timings).
In his opening remarks, Acting Mayor Jeongāgi Kim said FIX 2025 was more than an exhibition; itās a springboard for Daeguās long-term industrial transformation driven by AI, robotics, and mobility. That hit home for me, because here at **Arageek**, weāve always believed that the MENA regionāand beyondācan learn heaps from cities like Daegu that are serious about building tech ecosystems from the ground up. Itās not just showy gadgets; itās a blueprint for how innovation takes root when academia, government, and startups pull together.
As the day wrapped up, the halls buzzed with talks, laughter, and the occasional robot whirr. If this event is anything to go by, the future isnāt just on the horizonāitās already parked at the door, waiting for us to catch up. Well⦠almost, anyway. Iām still not sure Iād let a humanoid drive me home just yet, but give it a year or two, and Iāll be chuffed to bits to see where all this goes.
