A Diaspora Programme links 170 million people to Africa’s $200 billion digital economy.

Marrakech is set to welcome the continent’s tech heavyweights once again as GITEX Africa Morocco 2026 takes place from 7 to 9 April. For three days, the city will turn into a crossroads for founders, investors, policymakers and global technology firms, all looking at where Africa’s digital economy is heading next.

Organisers expect the numbers to be, well… quite something. More than 55,000 attendees are projected to join, alongside 1,500 exhibitors and startups, with around 700 speakers lined up for panels and industry talks. Delegations from 145 countries across Africa and beyond are also anticipated, underlining how the event has grown into a key date on the global tech calendar.

At its core, the summit aims to showcase the technologies shaping economic growth across the continent. This includes dedicated platforms for data centres, fintech and the future of finance, future mobility, and even sports technology. It’s not just about shiny gadgets; it’s about building real connections between startups, investors and established tech players. And I have to say, when these ecosystems genuinely click, the impact can be spot on.

On the investment side, more than 390 investors are expected to attend, collectively managing over $350 billion in assets. That’s serious firepower. Through a structured Investor and Matchmaking Programme, startups will get the chance to meet backers in curated one-to-one sessions, designed to create focused, sector-specific deal flow rather than random networking that can feel like a bit of a faff.

There’s also a strong emphasis on capacity building. The GITEX Africa Scale-Up Programme will offer mentorship and advisory support to growing ventures, while the Talent Academy is set to focus on developing both technical and business skills. Participants can also tap into certified workshops on generative AI, data science and blockchain, plus more than 20 live masterclasses running during the event.

One element that stands out is the dedicated Diaspora Programme. With Africa’s global diaspora estimated at around 170 million people, the initiative aims to connect this community to opportunities within what is described as a $200 billion digital economy. It’s a reminder that innovation on the continent is not happening in isolation; it’s part of a much wider, interconnected story.

The broader agenda aligns with Morocco’s Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, with a particular focus on Industry X.0 and health technologies. That long-term policy lens matters. Big conferences can sometimes feel like all talk and no trousers, but tying discussions to a national strategy gives it more weight, I reckon.

At Arageek, we often see how gatherings like this can energise founders who are still finding their feet. I still remember attending a regional tech event years ago and leaving chuffed to bits, not because of the keynote speeches, but because of one honest hallway conversation that changed a startup’s direction. These moments are hard to measure, yet they’re definately part of the magic.

As April approaches, all eyes will be on Marrakech. Whether you’re a scaling founder, a curious investor, or simply someone watching Africa’s tech rise, this edition of GITEX Africa looks set to bring big conversations, and perhaps a few unexpected partnerships, to the table.
