It’s not every day that a tool drops into the MENA startup ecosystem aiming to make life noticeably easier for online merchants—yet that’s exactly what just happened with the release of Shahbandr AI. If you keep a close eye on e-commerce in Saudi Arabia or across the region, you’ve probably already caught wind of Shahbandr. They’re quickly carving out a niche as an enabler for digital stores in the Arab world, and their latest move could be, well… a real game changer.

Launched straight from Riyadh, Shahbandr AI is pitched as the first all-in-one generative AI kit fully tailored to the needs of Arabic-speaking e-commerce stores. The fact that it’s integrated right inside active stores is spot on—no faffing about with complicated plugins or outside subscriptions. I’ve seen too many founders wrestling with disconnected tools, so seeing all core content needs—from marketing copy to photos, audio, and even video—catered for in proper Arabic and accessible from a single dashboard? That’s a breath of fresh air.

And believe it or not, it’s being offered free of charge to stores already running on the Shahbandr platform—a welcome move for startups counting every riyal or pound. Tamer Sharkas, who leads the technical side as co-founder and CTO, made a point of highlighting their focus on a user experience that even tech novices can manage without breaking a sweat. Generating product images, marketing texts, or even converting written content into an interactive clip (complete with voiceover) is now supposed to be as easy as pie. I reckon that’s the difference between a tool that actually gets used, and one that gathers dust.

One detail that caught my eye: Shahbandr AI doesn’t just give you a blank slate and tell you to get on with it. There are over 50 tools and templates packed with pre-set prompts—which seems handy if you’d rather spend more time shifting product, and less time second-guessing how to write an AI command. Shady Abdelsbaheed, Shahbandr’s co-founder and CEO, made clear that the main aim here is to offer solid, practical support by stripping away technical headaches (and pricey third-party platforms). In my experience, merchants aren’t looking for bells and whistles—they just want stuff that works.

It’s not Shahbandr’s first rodeo, either. The company recently rolled out a Videocommerce feature that, by all reports, has helped more than 18,000 stores ramp up sales and boost customer stickiness by around five times. That’s no small feat—though, on the flip side, I always wonder if those results will hold up as more stores jump on board.

Shahbandr itself isn’t exactly a grizzled veteran, having started in 2022, but they’ve managed rapid progress in Saudi Arabia and Egypt so far, with broader regional plans in the pipeline. As someone who’s watched countless startups in this ecosystem struggle with content in various languages—let alone juggling multiple platforms just to keep up—seeing an end-to-end toolkit, designed from the get-go for Arabic merchants, feels pretty refreshing. Nothing’s ever perfect, mind you. I’m not a fan of one-size-fits-all promises, and only time will tell if the kit lives up to its claims of ease (building for total beginners always ends up a bit of a faff, doesn’t it?). That said, if even half of what’s on offer delivers, Shahbandr AI is definately worth a closer look—especially if cost and complexity have been slowing your store’s growth.
