VentureX has put fresh backing behind the Egyptian agri‑tech startup Croptimus, which has been building its name around regenerative farming solutions and biochar production. The move fits neatly with the company’s aim to push sustainability in agriculture, especially when it comes to cutting down water use and chemical fertilisers. I reckon this part alone will catch the attention of plenty of readers at Arageek, as we’ve seen more founders across the region trying to solve exactly these pain points.

The investment also lines up with the vision of the “Hasad” accelerator, an initiative focused on reshaping sustainable agriculture and boosting regional food security through homegrown innovation. Croptimus, interestingly enough, had graduated from the accelerator not long after it launched — a reminder of how these programmes sometimes become the quiet springboard for bigger moves. And believe it or not, a couple of conversations I had years ago with young farmers in the Delta still echo in my mind; many of them said dealing with soil degradation was “a bit of a faff”, so seeing tech like this scale up feels spot on.

From what’s been shared publicly, the investment aims to strengthen agricultural supply chains in Egypt and across the region by introducing more efficient and environmentally friendly alternatives, especially biochar. The idea is to reduce water waste, boost crop health, and build a more resilient food system — something everyone in the sector talks about, though not many manage to execute well… I mean, sustainably.

Croptimus founder Ahmed Hassanein described the partnership as a strategic step that supports the company’s mission of converting agricultural and food waste into useful biological products. He said this helps farmers and businesses cut waste and emissions, while giving wider room for sustainable farming practices to expand. On the flip side, he also hinted that the team is now accelerating the rollout of its tech across regional and international markets to maximise environmental and economic impact. The ambition is definately there.

For anyone following the agri‑climate space, especially here in MENA, this feels like another sign that the sector is slowly — but surely — shifting from talk to tangible solutions.
