WaHa, a water technology firm, secured $8 million for expansion in the Gulf region.

Funds will support expansion, ownership restructuring, and debt repayment, tackling multiple challenges seamlessly.

Investors include industry leaders like Berkeley Catalyst Fund and Mitsui Mining & Smelting.

WaHa partners with Khalifa University to test technology under extreme desert conditions.

Their commercial debut is slated for Dubai's WETEX expo in September 2025.

When someone mentions "generating water from thin air," I’ll admit I'm a bit sceptical—I mean, it sounds a bit sci-fi-ish, doesn’t it? That said, it seems WaHa, or more formerly "Water Harvesting Inc," is serious about this tech, having just bagged $8 million in their latest Series A-1 investment round to ramp up growth across the Gulf.

According to sources close to the deal, the funding isn't just about bankrolling expansion—it’s also aimed at smoothing their ownership structure and paying down debts. I've seen plenty of startups juggling funding, ownership dramas, and ambitious expansion all at once—it's usually a bit of a faff. Impressively, though, WaHa appears keen to tackle all fronts in one go.

Leading figures like board chairman Mike Philips and board member Christian Therion are putting money where their mouths are, joined by international heavyweights such as Berkeley Catalyst Fund, Anthropocene Institute, Vestafund and Mitsui Mining & Smelting. Clearly, the investors are chuffed with WaHa’s technological promise.

Since 2023, WaHa's been quietly validating its atmospheric water technology across pretty diverse spots—west Texas deserts, bustling Abu Dhabi, dry Riyadh, and even cool Stockholm. If the tech really performs equally well, whether it's baking or freezing outside, they'll truly be onto something special.

Currently, WaHa’s partnering with Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi to stress-test their systems against harsh desert conditions, a crucial step in getting their product polished ahead of an official commercial release. The big reveal will take place at Dubai’s major water and energy expo WETEX in September 2025—mark your calendars!

It feels like the timing here is spot on too. Gulf countries, from what I gather from talking around the entrepreneural circles at Arageek, are doubling down on sustainability, especially when it comes to water security. WaHa really couldn't ask for a better moment or place to carve out a pivotal role for its innovative solution.

So, while turning humid air into fresh drinking water might initially feel too good to be true, WaHa’s momentum—and solid backing—suggests it's genuinely within reach. Watch this space.
