The UAE’s ambitions for smarter, greener logistics just got a major boost. The trade and transport group 7X has joined hands with Zelostech, an international heavyweight in autonomous vehicle technology, to launch a new venture called AutoLogiX Smarttech LLC. The idea? To roll out driverless cargo vehicles across the country and—eventually—the wider Middle East.
Now, this isn’t just talk about futuristic vans humming down Sheikh Zayed Road. AutoLogiX is kicking off with Level 4 autonomous vehicles, meaning they drive themselves completely—no cab, no steering wheel, nothing. These trucks are meant to move goods between logistics hubs faster and more safely than traditional motors, and with a much lighter carbon footprint. At first, the focus will be on supporting EMX, 7X’s own logistics arm, within the UAE. But the venture’s roadmap already includes the GCC and beyond, with hints of fancy add-ons like last‑mile robots and mobile smart locker systems.
Tariq Al Wahedi, CEO of 7X, said the partnership shows how far the UAE has come in marrying technical innovation with real‑world logistics. He described AutoLogiX as a leap towards making regional transport “smarter, more sustainable, and efficient.” It’s a bold claim, though not far‑fetched given how the country’s been pushing its digital and environmental visions.
Zelostech’s chief, Kong Qi, seemed equally upbeat. He noted the company’s roving “robovans” have clocked over 50 million kilometres of safe operation globally—and by year‑end, he expects to have more than 20,000 in service worldwide. That’s quite the number when you think about it. On the flip side, aligning so many autonomous units with regional traffic laws could be, well, a bit of a faff. But I reckon the UAE is one of the few places actually equipped to pull it off.
EMX’s general manager, Laith Tahboub, called the tie‑up a “significant step” towards smarter transport within the company’s local network. According to him, using these self‑driving vehicles will mean safer and cleaner middle‑mile deliveries—something every logistics boss dreams about, especially with emissions targets tightening faster than anyone expected.
From where we stand at Arageek, it’s fascinating to watch the region’s logistics scene evolve this fast. A few years ago, when I chatted with founders working on delivery tech, they’d often tell me that automation sounded great on paper but wasn’t quite ready for the region’s roads. Today, seeing fleets of driverless machines ready to go feels like watching that vision finally take shape. And believe it or not, the UAE might just be spot on in betting big on it.
As the country keeps steering towards a low‑carbon, tech‑driven future, ventures like AutoLogiX could well set the pace for others across the MENA. It’s early days, sure—but the wheels (quite literally!) are already turning. I’m definately curious to see how far they’ll roll.
