Agritech startup Aydi has secured $7,5 million to expand its AI-driven farming solution.

Their AI assistant, Orth, provides timely recommendations to improve yields and fight farming challenges.

Orth uses weather, satellite data, and predictive analytics for plot-level precision insights.

Investors see Orth as key for democratising agricultural expertise, with the official launch in Madrid.

Despite challenges, Aydi aims for global impact as demand for food rises significantly by 2050.

Agritech startup Aydi has just secured a $7.5 million seed round to expand its AI solution for farmers, drawing in investment from COTU Ventures, Daltex and Nuwa Capital, with additional backing from Magrabi Agriculture and Foundation Ventures. The company is rolling out *Orth*, its artificial intelligence-powered agronomy assistant, aimed at helping growers navigate rising costs, climate unpredictability and a shortage of agricultural experts.

Hassan Fayed, Aydi’s founder and CEO, described the raise as a “major milestone” for the company and emphasised that most growers worldwide lack timely access to expert advice. He pointed out the stark reality: one agronomist for every 10,000 acres. Orth, according to him, is designed to close that gap by offering instant recommendations, detecting problems before they snowball, and nudging farmers towards higher-quality yields.

What makes Orth stand out isn’t just its conversational AI but the way it merges weather and satellite data with predictive analytics. The aim? Precision insights at the level of individual plots of land. Some trials have reported boosts in efficiency and yield by over 20%, which is not too shabby at all. On the flip side, such heavy reliance on tech also means farmers need decent connectivity, and that’s still a bit of a faff in certain rural regions.

Backing for Orth is coming not only from investors but also from long-time partners. Amir Farha of COTU Ventures said the mission to help growers thrive despite mounting challenges was a driving factor in their decision, noting that “agriculture needs its AI moment”. Nuwa Capital’s Nitin Reen added that the platform democratises access to top-tier guidance that used to be reserved for large, industrial-scale farms. And from Daltex, Ibrahim El Naggar highlighted one often overlooked problem—capturing and truly understanding field-level data—which Orth could help solve with AI-supported insights.

The official launch takes place this week at Fruit Attraction in Madrid, where Aydi is offering both free and paid versions for users ranging from smallholder farmers to bigger agribusinesses. With the new capital, the team plans to develop Orth into what they’re calling a full AI Operating System for global agriculture.

I reckon the push comes at the right time. With food demand expected to jump 70% by 2050, tools that help farmers stretch their resources and adapt to shifting weather could be spot on. Back when I was visiting one of the Arageek community events on agritech, I remember a farmer from the Nile Delta venting about how hard it is to get timely expert support. He said most of the advice he gets is generic, and by the time it arrives, pests have already done the damage. Reading about Orth, I couldn’t help but think—this is exactly the sort of fix he was craving.

Of course, no tool is a magic wand. And believe it or not, some growers still prefer their neighbour’s advice over an app, no matter how smart the tech behind it. But if Orth can deliver on even part of its promise, a lot of farmers around the region will be chuffed to bits. It may just prove that AI in agriculture isn’t a passing trend but a real gamechanger. Or, as one grower once told me in a slightly exasperated tone, “technology’s all good, but can it stop my crops dying?” Well… I mean, maybe it can help, at least.

Either way, Aydi’s next steps will be closely watched. The seed funding lays a foundation, but the real test will come out in the fields, where every day’s yield counts more than any press release. And for those of us who’ve seen startups rise and stumble, it’s a reminder—execution, not vision, makes or breaks you. Definately one to keep an eye on.
