Cloud Box Technologies Appoints First Chief AI Officer to Lead Ambitious AI Strategy

Cloud Box Technologies, the Dubai-based systems integrator, has made a clear statement about where it believes the future is heading. The company has appointed Laxmi Nageswari as its first-ever Chief AI Officer, while rolling out a three-pillar artificial intelligence strategy designed to weave AI into every corner of its business, rather than boxing it up as a standalone service.

It’s a notable shift. Instead of treating AI like an optional add-on, Cloud Box is embedding it across cybersecurity, data analytics, automation and cloud services. In simple terms, the firm wants AI to sit at the core of how it delivers digital infrastructure and transformation projects. Well… that’s easier said than done, but it’s an ambition many mid-sized tech players in the region are now chasing.

The new strategy rests on three components. First, integrated AI embedded throughout its existing service lines. Second, an “Algo-as-a-Service” model, essentially reusable AI models that can be deployed at scale for enterprise clients without rebuilding everything from scratch each time. And third, a dedicated Centre of Excellence to oversee governance, research, and talent development internally.

From what’s been outlined, this is more than a branding refresh. It signals a transition from traditional IT infrastructure work towards broader digital transformation support. And believe it or not, that shift can be a bit of a faff for companies rooted in legacy systems integration. It requires not only new tools, but new thinking and new leadership.

That’s where Nageswari steps in. In her new role, she will oversee the company’s AI strategy, innovation roadmap, partnerships and capability-building efforts. Managing Director Ranjith Kaippada has linked the move to the UAE’s National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, suggesting the company aims to align itself with national priorities around responsible AI adoption and innovation.

I’ve noticed over the past few years, especially covering stories for Arageek, that startups and even established tech firms across the UAE are chuffed to bits whenever they can demonstrate alignment with Vision 2031 strategies. It gives credibility, yes, but it also opens doors to partnerships and enterprise contracts. I reckon we’ll see more mid-tier integrators create similar C-level AI roles soon; governance is fast becoming a commercial differentiator, not just a compliance exercise.

On the flip side, launching something like “Algo-as-a-Service” sounds spot on in theory, but enterprise clients in the Middle East can be cautious. Many still prefer bespoke implementations tailored to very specific internal systems. Whether Cloud Box’s reusable model gains traction at scale will be interesting to watch.

Still, the broader direction is hard to ignore. By connecting hardware, applications and in-house talent under a cohesive AI platform, Cloud Box is positioning itself as more than just an infrastructure provider. It wants to be seen as a full-spectrum transformation partner, a subtle but important difference.

The UAE’s IT services market is getting crowded, and standing out is not easy. Creating a dedicated Chief AI Officer role at this stage definately signals that Cloud Box sees artificial intelligence not as hype, but as structural. Whether that bet pays off will depend, as always, on execution. But for now, the message is clear: AI is no longer treated as a side project, it’s becoming the main event.
