MemryX is set to open a new office in Riyadh by October 2025.

The expansion aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 to diversify its economy and tech sector.

Key executives, including the general manager, will relocate to Saudi Arabia permanently.

They're establishing local engineering teams to provide global expertise to Saudi institutions directly.

MemryX will sponsor a local AI hackathon, providing young engineers access to cutting-edge technology.

MemryX, a company specializing in semiconductor chips and AI acceleration solutions, has announced a notable move: the opening of a new office in Riyadh in October 2025. This step is part of a broader expansion in Saudi Arabia, clearly aligned with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which focuses on economic diversification and positioning Saudi Arabia as a hub for advanced technologies.

What’s striking is that this isn’t just a symbolic office. Senior leadership—including the General Manager and the VP of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships—will actually relocate to Saudi Arabia. The company is also building local engineering teams in development and technical support, ensuring that both public and private sectors, as well as universities, gain direct access to global expertise without the need for a “long detour.”

CEO Keith Kressin stated that the Kingdom is rapidly transforming into a global center for AI and semiconductors. He added that investing there not only reflects confidence in Vision 2030 but also reinforces the company’s commitment to empowering local talent and developing technologies that make communities safer and more efficient. Honestly, I think that’s spot on—especially with initiatives like NEOM and the National Semiconductor Center, Saudi Arabia is laying a solid foundation.

On a practical level, MemryX held its global board meeting in the Middle East for the first time, choosing Riyadh as the stage for this milestone. Moves like this aren’t just photo ops—they signal a serious intent to establish a meaningful presence. In the same spirit, the company plans to participate in the Future Investment Initiative (FII) 2025, a conference that has become an early indicator of where global innovation is heading.

And there’s another touch, perhaps closest to the heart of the Arageek community: the company is sponsoring the “AI and Edge Computing Hackathon” at Prince Sultan University. The idea that dozens of young Saudi engineers will get hands-on experience with the company’s cutting-edge hardware and software is a major boost. I remember attending a local hackathon where the youth were passionate but the tools were modest, and the results—despite the enthusiasm—didn’t match their potential. So giving these programmers real access to global tech could literally be the difference between dreaming and doing.

Is everything rosy? Maybe not. Building high-performing local teams and securing effective partnerships with both public and private sectors is a complex process, and sometimes “a bit of a faff” due to bureaucracy. But I believe this move is precisely calculated to benefit both MemryX and the Saudi ecosystem.

Bottom line: The Riyadh move isn’t just geographic expansion—it’s a clear signal of intent to play a major role in the emerging AI economy. And Saudi Arabia, for its part, seems ready to take that bet seriously… which leaves us all wondering: what’s next?

While the future of such investments isn’t fully clear yet, in my view, it’s worth watching closely—especially as more global companies head to the Gulf in search of new opportunities. And honestly, I’d be definitely chuffed to bits if I saw young Saudis turn these initiatives into thriving startups within just a few years.
