With over 2.

8 million app downloads, myAster leads in digital health across the region.

Their integration of wellness and beauty products highlights convenience in one digital platform.

It’s not every day you spot a healthcare platform that manages to turn a mammoth challenge—getting your hands on urgent medicines and wellbeing products any hour of the day—into, well, a bit less of a faff. But that’s exactly what myAster has been chipping away at in the UAE, and now, they’ve stretched their 24x7 express delivery service beyond Dubai all the way to Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah. For people in these Emirates, late-night pharmacy runs or hunting down that favourite vitamin supplement under the midday sun might finally be on their way out.

If you (like me) have ever had one of those moments where you’re stuck at home without an essential medicine, it’s easy to see why demand has been surging. It's not just the basics either—myAster’s delivery covers everything from everyday prescriptions to skincare, mother-and-baby care and personal essentials. Put simply, they’re gunning to make sure you can get what you need, when you need it. From what I’ve seen, their 60-minute service in Dubai was spot on, so this wider rollout could be just what the doctor ordered (pun intended…).

Nalla Karunanithy, the CEO of Digital Health and E-Commerce at Aster DM Healthcare, summed up this move saying it’s about “building a health and wellness ecosystem that truly revolves around patients,” not just about making things a touch more convenient. That said, convenience is a big driver here—most people I come across in the startup space these days will tell you that time matters as much as quality.

Since myAster landed in 2022, it’s already notched up over 2.8 million app downloads and leaves its digital fingerprints on more than two million lives in just three years—numbers that frankly raise eyebrows, even for someone who's seen a few tech booms. In their last financial year, over a million medical appointments got booked through the app, and two out of three face-to-face appointments in the Aster system kicked off via myAster. That’s a pretty strong signal that digital health is not just a flash in the pan here.

The platform’s become a superapp up there with the best of them, bringing together pharmacy orders, consulting doctors remotely, in-person appointments and even lab results. Now with this UAE-wide, around-the-clock express delivery, and having already made a debut in Saudi Arabia, they seem to be eyeing a bigger slice of the region’s digital health pie. Honestly, I reckon the integration of wellness and beauty products is a clever touch—not that I’m personally fussed about fancy serums, but there’s clearly a crowd out there who loves getting everything in one swoop.

Aster DM Healthcare itself has come a long way since it started back in 1987, and has become one of the main players across five GCC countries and beyond, with a network of hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies under familiar brands like Aster, Medcare and Access. Adapting to what patients actually want—in person or online—has kept them on the right track so far, and this latest move shows their nose for where the market is heading.

From where I’m sitting at Arageek, there’s something inspiring about companies that spot a real need and charge after it, bringing nuts-and-bolts solutions to tricky everyday problems. Sure, not every digital innovation lands perfectly, but this one looks like it could save a fair few headaches across the Emirates. And believe it or not, sometimes the simple things—fast delivery, genuine choice—make all the difference.

If you ask me, the digital health race in MENA just got a bit more interesting, and for once, it’s not just hype. Now, let’s just hope they keep up the pace—no one likes checking their app only to find “out for delivery, arrival unknown”… you know?
