Sharjah is doubling down on its ambition to make life easier for businesses looking beyond the UAE’s borders. In a move that feels both practical and timely, the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DHL Express to strengthen logistics support for companies operating out of the emirate.
On paper, it’s a strategic partnership. In reality, it’s about making exports and re-exports smoother, faster and less of a faff for SMEs that often struggle with international shipping. The agreement focuses on easing foreign trade flows, streamlining shipment processes, and boosting efficiency for member companies registered with the Chamber.
The MoU was signed at SCCI’s headquarters in the presence of H.E. Mohamed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI; Mahmoud Haj Hussein, Managing Director of DHL Express; and Dr Fatima Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the International Relations Department at SCCI, alongside senior representatives from both sides.
Under the partnership, DHL Express will extend its international shipping services to SCCI members and SME entrepreneurs on preferential terms. For startups especially, access to discounted and reliable logistics can make a world of difference. I’ve seen founders in the region spend more time worrying about customs paperwork than about product development, and that’s never a good sign if you’re trying to scale.
H.E. Mohamed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi said the agreement supports the Chamber’s strategy to deliver world-class services that strengthen competitiveness and encourage businesses to expand into global markets. He noted that the collaboration is particularly significant for SMEs, giving them access to advanced logistics solutions designed to improve scalability and international reach.
That said, the partnership goes beyond cheaper shipping labels. It also includes tailored support for members and joint marketing initiatives such as awareness seminars and digital outreach campaigns. There are plans to integrate advanced technology solutions too, including e-shipping platform integration aimed at optimising trade processes and improving supply chain efficiency. In simple terms: less paperwork, more automation, and hopefully fewer headaches.
On the flip side, logistics is only as strong as the network behind it. DHL Express brings a sizeable operational footprint in the UAE, with more than 150 daily flights, three major airport hubs, over 350 vehicles and 35 service points nationwide. Its global connectivity stretches across key corridors including the GCC, the US, France, China, Germany and Italy, markets that many UAE-based exporters are keen to tap.
The company also operates across sectors ranging from automotive and pharmaceuticals to energy, fashion, aviation and manufacturing. Leveraging this sector-specific expertise could give Sharjah-based businesses a clearer runway when entering new industries or geographies.
For readers at Arageek, this is the kind of development that may not grab flashy headlines but is, in my view, spot on. Infrastructure and logistics rarely feel glamorous, yet they’re the backbone of real growth. If you ask me, I reckon partnerships like this are what quietly shape a more resillient startup ecosystem in the long term.
And believe it or not, sometimes the difference between a startup that makes it and one that stalls is simply whether its product arrives on time. Well… I mean, it sounds basic, but in global trade basics matter. For Sharjah’s entrepreneurs eyeing new markets, this agreement could be one small signature that leads to much bigger doors opening.
