UAE Telecom du Launches World’s First Six-Carrier 5G-Advanced Network

du says it launched the world’s first six-carrier aggregation on a live 5G-Advanced network.
With Nokia, it combined six carriers for 420 MHz, using real-world tests.
Carrier aggregation means “more lanes, less congestion”, boosting capacity and network performance.
Compatible phones will show a 5G+ icon; unsupported handsets will not benefit yet.
The rollout supports the UAE’s 6G roadmap and stronger foundations for digital growth.
UAE telecom operator du has rolled out what it describes as the world’s first six-carrier aggregation on a live 5G-Advanced network, a move that pushes more capacity onto mobile connections as data demand keeps climbing. In simple words, carrier aggregation lets a phone tap several spectrum channels at the same time, so the connection becomes wider and faster rather than relying on a single lane. It may sound a bit technical, but the idea is spot on: more lanes, less congestion.
The deployment was done with Nokia and its commercial Habrok massive MIMO radios, bringing together six 5G New Radio carriers across both FDD and TDD spectrum. Altogether, that gives 420 MHz of combined bandwidth. The setup uses spectrum bands at 3.6 GHz, 2.6 GHz, 2.1 GHz, 1.8 GHz and 600 MHz, and it was tested on the latest generation of devices in real-world field conditions, not only in a lab. That matters, because plenty of flashy network claims can be a bit of a faff once they meet everyday usage.
For users with compatible handsets, the improvement shows up as a 5G+ icon. That symbol means the device is connecting to du’s enhanced 5G-Advanced capabilities, where coverage, spectrum and handset support all line up. On the flip side, if your phone does not support it, you will not suddenly see magic happen overnight.
Saleem AlBlooshi, Chief Technology Officer at du, said bringing six 5G carriers together on the company’s commercial network marks an important milestone in building the next generation of connectivity in the UAE. He said the step shows how du can make better use of its spectrum to create more capacity and deliver stronger network performance as customer needs evolve. He also said the development advances du’s 5G+ network while helping lay the groundwork for the country’s eventual move towards 6G.
That wider 6G angle is not just corporate theatre. The deployment fits into the UAE’s national 6G roadmap led by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority. I reckon this is the part startup founders and digital businesses across the region should keep an eye on, because stronger mobile infrastructure tends to quietly unlock new products before most people notice. At Arageek, we often see founders obsess over apps, platforms and AI tools, but well… I mean, without serious network capacity beneath it all, scaling can become a headache pretty fast.
Nokia, for its part, framed the move as proof of how scattered spectrum assets can still be used effectively. Danial Mausoof, Vice President, MI Segment, MEA at Nokia, said carrier aggregation is crucial for getting the best possible 5G Advanced performance from fragmented spectrum holdings. He added that the milestone demonstrates Nokia’s position in 5G carrier aggregation and its ability to deliver commercial-grade performance for next-generation applications.
There is also a practical point here that should not be missed. Validating the capability on current devices suggests the upgrade is not some distant promise for a future product cycle. It is already being matched with handsets people can actually buy. For the UAE’s broader tech scene, from enterprise services to consumer apps, that is definately worth noting. Fast networks alone do not build ecosystems, of course, but they do remove friction, and in startups, friction is often what kills momentum first.
