Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry has recognised 35 companies under its Sustainability Label programme during LIVEX 2026, in a move that underlines how sustainability is becoming less of a nice-to-have and more of a real business necessity across the emirate.
The recognition came as part of the Chamber’s presence at the Liveability and Investment Exhibition, a platform that brings together policymakers, investors and business leaders around themes like liveability, investment and sustainable economic development. That matters because, these days, sustainability is tied not only to reputation but to supply chains, access to capital and long-term growth. For startups and scale-ups across MENA, Arageek readers know this shift is no small thing. I’ve seen founders treat sustainability as a bit of a faff at first, then realise it can open doors they did not expect.
The Sustainability Label is designed as a practical framework rather than just a badge on the wall. It looks at performance assessment, capability building and continuous improvement, with the aim of helping companies turn broad commitments into measurable action. In plain words, it is about making firms more resilient, more credible and better prepared for competition in a market that is changing fast.
H.E. Dr. Ali bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, First Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said sustainability is becoming an increasingly important factor in competitiveness, investment decisions and supply-chain requirements in global markets. He said companies that can measure and improve their sustainability performance stand in a stronger position to capture opportunities, manage risks and create long-term value.
He also said the Sustainability Label helps businesses move from ambition to practical action, while building the capabilities needed for future growth. According to Dr. Ali bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, the companies recognised this time have shown clear progress in embedding sustainability into the way they operate, govern and grow, which in turn supports Abu Dhabi’s wider economic development priorities.
And believe it or not, the scale is growing steadily. With this latest round, the total number of businesses awarded the Sustainability Label has reached 54 across Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the programme. I reckon that is a useful signal for the private sector: sustainability is no longer sitting on the sidelines, it is moving into the centre of boardroom thinking.
The four companies recognised in the Diamond Category were AECOM Middle East Ltd, Ernst & Young Middle East (Abu Dhabi Branch), Arabian Gulf Steel Industries LLC and Labotel. In the Gold Category, the recipients were Al Shamsi For Honey Trading, Crown Paper Mill LLC, Theraplush (Celestial Cocoon), Ittihad Paper Mill LLC, National Cement Factory and Emitac Healthcare Solutions.
The Silver Category included AKAR Landscaping Services & Agriculture LLC SPC, Union Copper Rod LLC, Emirates Link Nitco LLC and Agility Engineering and Contracting. The Bronze Category went to Noor Al Sahara General Contracting, Telematics Networking & Communication Company LLC Abu Dhabi, Al Bahri & Al Mazroei Trading Company LLC Abu Dhabi, Al Bahri & Al Mazroei Technical System LLC Abu Dhabi, Exeed Precast, Exeed Aswar, Exeed Industries, Bloom Holding, Al Nakheel Hygienic Paper Manufacturing L.L.C. SPC, Circa Biotech, Low Calories Restaurants LLC, Emirates Motor Company, Al Dhabi Contracting LLC, Emirates Food Industries, National Dairy L.L.C. Hayatna, National Dairy Farm, and National Feed and Flour Production and Marketing Company Sole Proprietorship L.L.C.
What stands out, perhaps most of all, is the spread of sectors. The list covers construction, engineering, manufacturing, food and beverage, agriculture, healthcare, automotive, hospitality, technology and professional services. That breadth feels spot on for where Abu Dhabi is heading. On the flip side, awards alone do not solve everything, and I’m not a fan of sustainability becoming only a branding exercise. Still, when programmes push firms to measure progress properly, that is usally when things become more meaningful.
For Abu Dhabi, the Chamber’s message is quite clear: a stronger private sector will need to be competitive, future-ready and able to meet changing global expectations. For founders across the region, well... I mean, there is a lesson in that too. Sustainability may sound like a corporate phrase at first, but when it helps companies win trust, attract investment and stay resilient, it becomes serious business.
