It was a buoyant atmosphere in Cairo recently as Shell Egypt teamed up with Flat6Labs Egypt, celebrating another successful year of their influential "Intilaaqah" programme, aimed at empowering bright, young entrepreneurs across the country. At a glittering awards ceremony hosted in the bustling Egyptian capital, more than a thousand talented innovators from Cairo, Alexandria, and Beheira governorates found their months of hard work acknowledged and celebrated.
During the year-long programme, launched as part of Shell Intilaaqah Egypt, young entrepreneurs were given first-class practical training, mentoring, and assistance that aimed directly at boosting their business know-how. Over 120 enthusiastic start-up teams participated, benefiting from intensive camps where they finetuned their innovative ideas, learned how best to present their business concepts, and even practised handling those dreaded "dragons' den" style investment pitches.
Speaking of the programme’s achievements, Dalia El Gabry, Shell Egypt’s Deputy Chair and Managing Director, said: "Shell Intilaaqah Egypt has made impressive strides this year. After all, we firmly believe true community empowerment is about more than just supplying energy. It’s about creating opportunities for promising young people, giving them the skills they need to thrive and improve thier lives."
She went on to add, "By nurturing these exceptional young entrepreneurs, we're playing our part in strengthening Egypt's national economy over the long haul. It’s all about building an inclusive innovation ecosystem — something we’re dedicated to continuing as we reach communities right across Egypt."
Things kicked off earlier in the programme with trainings held not only face-to-face in Cairo, Alexandria, and Beheira, but also through virtual boot camps (got to love technology these days), meaning more aspiring entrepreneurs could take part from far and wide. The sessions focused on thinking big, better understanding customer needs, mapping business ideas out clearly, and developing sturdy business models to make sure nothing was left to chance.
Two specialised tracks were launched this March, wrapping up later with judging days where six standout teams were handed cash prizes, giving their businesses a welcome boost as they continue to blossom.
Hany El Sonbaty, Chairman and Co-Founder at Flat6Labs Egypt, shared his take on the programme: "The level of enthusiasm, creativity, and determination we've seen has genuinely been extraordinary, and it makes us very proud. By working closely with Shell Egypt, we've played our part in laying solid foundations for flourishing Egyptian start-ups, robust enough to handle market demands and committed to driving sustainable growth in the economy. That’s exactly what Flat6Labs Egypt stands for — we’re excited to continue supporting entrepreneurs striving to shape a brighter future."
Initiatives like Shell Intilaaqah Egypt fit perfectly within the wider framework of Egypt's Vision 2030 and align closely with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. Supported by its integrated social investment portfolio and a network of local and international partners, Shell Egypt’s commitment to youth, innovation, and entrepreneurship continues to have a meaningful and lasting impact across Egypt.
