I’ve often noticed, especially when speaking with founders around Cairo for Arageek pieces, that cybersecurity can feel like a bit of a faff. Everyone knows it matters, yet the tools, the jargon, the pricing… it can all get messy very quickly. So when MHE | NextGenIT and SonicWall brought a roomful of security specialists together at the InterContinental Cairo on 11 November, the timing felt spot on for many companies trying to keep their digital doors locked.
The gathering showcased SonicWall’s latest smart security solutions for the region, covering everything from cloud protection to safeguarding internal corporate networks. Alongside the tech, the two firms also highlighted a full suite of managed services—essentially a way for companies to outsource the heavy lifting and keep their systems running securely without burning out their own teams.
Mohamed Abdullah, SonicWall’s Regional Director for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa, took part in the event, where conversations quickly zeroed in on the challenges Egyptian firms face. Security licensing costs jump around more than anyone would like, and there’s still a nagging gap between global tech providers and local customers—sometimes as simple as language, other times about understanding how businesses here actually operate. More than 40 organisations from healthcare, commercial services, non‑banking finance and tech attended, and many echoed the same headache: finding skilled cybersecurity talent who will stay long enough to make a difference is becoming increasingly difficult… and believe it or not, some said this was their biggest risk.
MHE and SonicWall explained how managed cybersecurity services could soften these blows. As SonicWall’s business partner, MHE works directly with client teams to configure and operate security systems aligned with local market needs. I reckon this model will appeal to firms tired of chasing specialists who disappear after a few months. And on the flip side, it also helps with day‑to‑day issues like adjusting licensing to match a company’s real size, or simply breaking down communication barriers in plain language.
Their managed services are designed with flexibility in mind—monthly arrangements instead of long, rigid contracts that lock companies in for years. They cover a wide mix of high‑demand tools too: Zero Trust access, next‑gen firewalls, cloud protection through Cloud Secure Edge, and threat‑detection platforms like EDR and NDR. Through MHE’s MSSP certification, companies can also rely on a dedicated team to monitor systems and step in before any threat spirals out of control.
One announcement that grabbed attention was SonicWall’s new partnership with the international firm Cysurance. Abdullah noted that the collaboration will introduce cyber‑insurance policies ranging from USD 100,000 to USD 1 million, depending on the scale of the solutions deployed and in line with global regulatory standards. It’s not everyday you see insurance baked so neatly into cybersecurity offerings—I was quite chuffed to bits to see this becoming more common in the region.
The event wrapped up with an open forum where attendees swapped stories, shared a few lessons learned the hard way, and compared experiences from across Egypt’s fast‑evolving cybersecurity landscape. These are the kinds of exchanges that, from what I’ve seen in startup circles, often matter more than any slick product demo. They build confidence, community, and sometimes even spark ideas that wouldn’t surface otherwise. As one participant joked, “If only securing our networks was as easy as chatting about them.” Well… I mean, he wasn’t wrong.
