The second edition of Sunbulah, a specialised accelerator programme focusing on agriculture and food technologies, has just been unveiled. This innovative scheme connects the vibrant start-up scenes of Riyadh and Paris, aiming to give early-stage ventures a helping hand as they build their presence both regionally and internationally.
Sunbulah specifically targets young firms at the early seed stage through to just before their Series A funding round (otherwise known as Pre-Series A). Participants of the programme get access to a dynamic entrepreneurial supportive environment—a crucial resource for companies navigating a sector which is experiencing considerable global transformation and demand.
According to organisers, the accelerator offers a variety of tailored services to start-ups, including workshops led by experts from both Saudi Arabia and abroad, weekly one-on-one mentoring sessions, and access to modern office spaces at the vibrant entrepreneurial hub, The Garage, in Riyadh. The programme also makes it easier for participants to connect with advanced research institutions and helps simplify the notoriously tricky process of obtaining regulatory licenses. Additionally, there are valuable networking opportunities with local and international investors, alongside a host of interesting community activities aimed at boosting interaction within the start-up ecosystem.
One of Sunbulah’s core aims is to boost international collaboration in agricultural technology and stimulate innovation throughout the global food supply chain. By strategically linking Saudi Arabia’s innovation centres with thriving European markets, the hope is to foster bold new ideas and sustainable business ventures across borders.
The programme runs for a total of 17 weeks, and interested start-ups have until the 14th of June to put in their applications.
These types of accelerator programmes could really make all the difference, particularly in a fast-moving industry like agritech, which has become a bit of a hot potato recently (pardon the pun). Anyone who follows agriculture technology news on Arageek or similar platforms knows the huge potential for innovation waiting to be tapped.
Speaking genuinely—it's encouraging to see collaborations like Sunbulah linking up different regions of the world to tackle global issues like food security and sustainability. Here’s hoping the programme helps sprout (see what I did there?) some exciting new ventures that'll make a real difference.
