Ajman University and Arizona’s Eller are bringing the GALA programme to the UAE.

It marks GALA’s first Middle East launch, aimed at government and industry leaders.

The course tackles AI strategy, governance and turning experiments into “measurable value”.

Its three levels cover C-suite strategy, enterprise transformation and practical implementation.

The UAE version uses GCC case studies and supports individuals, teams and whole organisations.

Ajman University Executive Education and Eller Executive Education at the University of Arizona are bringing the Generative AI Leadership Accelerator, or GALA, to the UAE, following a new Memorandum of Understanding signed in Ajman this month. It is the programme’s first outing in the Middle East, and that alone makes it worth watching for readers across the startup and leadership scene in the region.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, and Dr. Joe Carella, Chief Learning Officer on behalf of Eller Executive Education. In simple terms, the deal sets up cooperation on executive education in generative AI, with a focus on helping leaders in government and industry build stronger AI capabilities. For anyone around MENA’s startup world, this feels quite spot on. I’ve seen founders get chuffed to bits about AI tools, only to hit a wall when it comes to governance, accountability and turning experiments into real business value.

That, really, is the gap this programme is trying to address. As the UAE pushes ahead with its ambitions in artificial intelligence, organisations need more than hype and clever demos. They need leaders who understand when AI should be used, how it should be governed, and how to steer change without making a complete mess of things. Well... I mean, AI strategy is not just about plugging in a chatbot and hoping for the best.

According to Dr. Karim Seghir, artificial intelligence is changing not only what organisations can do, but also the kind of decisions leaders are expected to make. He said the UAE has made its ambitions in AI very clear, and argued that meeting those ambitions will require leaders who can act responsibly, turn strategy into institutional change and deliver measurable value. He also said the collaboration combines international expertise with regional understanding to build AI leadership capability at every level of an organisation.

The UAE version of GALA has been tailored with the region in mind, which is an important detail and not just a marketing extra. It includes UAE and GCC case studies, regional data and governance considerations, plus capstone projects built around participants’ own organisations. On the flip side, plenty of executive programmes arrive in the Gulf with imported ideas that do not quite fit local realities, so I reckon this regional design is definately the smart bit here.

The programme itself is split into three connected levels. The first, AI Strategy and Governance, is a two-day, 12-hour intensive aimed at C-suite executives. Then comes Leading Enterprise AI Transformation, also two days and 12 hours, for executives and directors who are meant to turn AI ambition into coordinated change across the organisation. The third layer, AI Implementation and Innovation, runs for three days over 18 hours and is built for senior managers responsible for taking AI initiatives from strategy to implementation, with measurable operational results.

Justin Dutram, Senior Director and CEO of Eller Executive Education at the University of Arizona, said the AI revolution is changing how organisations compete, innovate and create value. He described the partnership with Ajman University Executive Education as a way to bring a practical and applied leadership programme to the UAE. He added that the collaboration draws on the expertise, research and perspectives of faculty and researchers from both Ajman University and the University of Arizona, with the aim of giving executives actionable insight on AI strategy, implementation and organisational transformation.

Dutram also said the partnership is intended to help UAE business leaders gain the knowledge, confidence and practical capabilities needed to lead AI transformation. And believe it or not, that practical angle may be what decides whether programmes like this stick. Around Arageek’s wider audience, there is always excitement when global institutions team up with regional ones, but people are not fans of theory-heavy training that turns into a bit of a faff once the slides disappear.

GALA will be open to both individuals and organisations. Participation options include individual enrolment, leadership teams and dedicated cohorts for entire organisations. That gives it a wider reach, from a single executive trying to sharpen decision-making to a government entity or large company looking to align several layers of leadership around AI adoption.

Ajman University Executive Education says its broader mission is to help leaders and organisations handle complex decisions and change, using practice-driven programmes rooted in real organisational challenges. Eller Executive Education, affiliated with the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, is known for customised executive programmes delivered internationally across sectors including public services, mining, healthcare and technology.

For the UAE, and really for the wider Gulf, the timing looks right. AI conversations have moved fast from curiosity to boardroom priority, and the next step is less glamorous but more serious: leadership, governance and execution. That’s where this partnership seems to be placing its bet. Interested executives and organisations can register to receive the full GALA programme brochure through Ajman University’s executive education portal.
